New K10D Pricing and rebate

Ned Bunnell posted a "pre-press" image of an ad that will start running in selected US newspapers on 1 August...

(nedbunnell.blogspot.com/2007/07/k10d-newspaper-ad.html)

The copy shows a K10D Kit list price (Body + 18-55mm lens) of $899 before rebate, and indicates a $50 rebate is available through 9/30/07... so it looks like the current rebate program, set to end 7/31/07, will be immediately followed by another one. No details on the Pentax web site yet, as far as I can tell.

About time they spent some on advertising. I just wish they would get some ads up over here too.

All right! I'm curious to see what they come up with as far as prices and rebates for the next go round.

What is the retail price on the K10D with kit right now? On Pentax's site it says under $900.

Right now you can get it for $820 and a $50 MIR which comes out to be about $770 after the rebate.

In Canada they have not reduced the price since introduction of the K10D. Even though our $$ is roughly within 5% of the US $$. I can get a Canon 20D now for $100 more than a K10d. (which is a Canon $600 drop since the K10D introduction.)

When asking Pentax Canada in regards to corrections for the dollar they basically said if I do not like there pricing, tough. Well that leaves one more K10d for another Canadian as I will just stick with my current Pentax lineup with no future plans to even buy their lenses. (Which for the most part are priced quite nicely now)

Not sure how Pentax treats their customers world wide, however it looks like they are only concerned about the USA market. Ahhh just call me small potatoes...

Any word on lens rebates?

The current rebate program expires on July 31st. Curious if I should pull there trigger on a FA 31mm F1.8 AL ($100.00 rebate), or wait....

Whenever there's an advantage to buying from the U.S. (as there is now on practically everything because of relatively strong dollar) I do so without hesitation.

If you want a K10, get it from south of the border.

Pentax Canada does not usually even bother to respond to enquiries- likely a real Mickey Mouse operation compared to Pentax USA.

Just bought my K10D for $799 at Ace Photo in VA. They said that was the new MSRP. Bought the battery grip too ($150), so the combo rebate is $125. Essentially you get the battery grip for $25. Great deal! Just gotta get my rebate stuff in the mail first thing in the morning.

You wont have the advantages of the Canadian warranties and will probably have to pay in order to get your dslr body fixed + labour and parts.

I'm sure the K10D price will come down in time. Looking at the K100D..its dropped to $530CAN at Henrys (body only) to pave way for the K100D super.

I think the K10D price is bottoming out. As I said, the new (US) MSRP (per the store where I just bought mine) on the K10D body is $799 and probably won't/can't go much, if any, lower in the forseeable future. My personal opinion is that this is probably an indicator that the KxxD is just around the corner. Will be interesting to see what the next set of rebates are though.

Well, shut my mouth...B&H has K10D's listed at $729.95. The K100D body is down to $427.95...

I've not had any problems with my K100, but with all the other electronics I've bought in the U.S. (other cameras, stero equip., computer equipt.,) the warranties were honoured by the U.S. manufacturers without any questions. I'd trust the U.S. counterparts of any electronics manufacturer's repair depot to do the repair better and more promptly, too. Their experience and parts supply is likely 10 x ours, just due to volume handled.

The longer warranty period in Canada -2 years vs one in the U.S. is just a marketing scam to scare Canadian buyers into not buying from the U.S. If an electronic product is going to fail, it normally will within the first year.

Also, as I previously posted, the Pentax boys in Mississauga never even bothered to answer any of the 3 enquiries I directed their way. Hardly instills confidence...

Tom, that is surprising as they at least got back to me. Never what I want to hear of course. I have been very lucky with the quality of the Pentax products I have bought. My Ds has survived mountain bike wipeouts, snowball fights and being caught out in the rain while shooting wildlife. It still works....

The only useless thing I see with Pentax Canada is that they have priced themselves out of existance, when one can purchase in the USA cheaper. I have done this with two lenses and maybe a body now. Rumour has it Pentax USA has two Grand Prix Editions in stock!
