These are brilliant marketing. The Japanese love this sort of stuff. It costs perhaps $10 to get the different colours (being conservative) and they get to sell them at a higher price and more importantly drive interest.

I may be only months from my sixtieth birthday and as such shouldn't like anything as gaudy as this.... BUT.... I think it's brilliant.

Brilliant marketing?

How does Pentax expect to attract serious photographers when they market toys?

Perhaps it might be nice for Pentax to put a little money into developing a nice 400 or 500mm prime lens? Maybe look into upgrading the K7 to true Semi Pro levels? Instead of sitting around the board room table with coloring books and crayons, how about some real improvements in the camera line?

Or perhaps Pentax doesn't care. Which begs the question, "what the heck happened to my favorite camera company?"

Hey Al, as they used to say "ease your jets". Stuff like this sells. Stuff like this creates "buzz" More sales and more importantly more "buzz" means that Hoya/Pentax is more profitable. Profitibility frequently means more R&D and then maybe some of the "toys" you are looking for. We have no real way of knowing what is happening in their R&D, but I will guarantee it's not the rainbow K-x. The rainbow K-x is pure marketing, NOT R&D.

My only real objection is they released this news the same day that Sony announced a bevy of new and exciting camera releases. Couldn't you have waited a day, Pentax?

Weather it sells or not, I think it’s an embarrassment. There are other improvements that can be made to the KX that would increase its potential.
This is just silly.

NaCl(relax, have some fun)H2O -

Well, as the new (less than a month anyway) owner of a Pentax KX, bought so I could use the high ISO capability with my Sigma 150-500, I'm getting kind of tired of having to "settle" for second best. ( first in the lens, then in the camera) So much so that I'm seriously thinking about just giving up on my favorite camera company completely.

On the other hand, it's probably a nice camera for shooting kids birthday parties. I wonder if B&H will start selling a matching clown suit for it as an official Pentax accessory?

There are a million reasons why I don't own Canikon gear right now, but honestly, this kind of stuff is really tipping the scales in that direction. I keep saying I will wait until the fall and see what happens next. But with this, I don't have much faith in Pentax/Hoya and I might/am probably, just be wasting my time.

Not everyone thinks they're next Anal Adams.

You want a status symbol, buy a Leica.

Why is it you only hear these kinds of comments from Pentax owners?

Because this is who Pentax/Hoya are now marketing too. As someone said -

"Brilliant"

I don't want a Leica. I want a nice semi pro body that will handle a bit higher ISO like the other companies, with a shutter that wont cause a tsunami half way around the world every time you take a photo. I would also like it to be a move UP the chain, instead of sideways as going from a K20 to K 7 is to me, or downward going to the KX. If you want my money, if you want my support, do something to earn it, and no, painting a camera to look like a box of Lego's or a pack of Jolly Ranchers isn't cutting it.
