And those of us that do, will realise that the sensor is the Leica S2 is most likely different from the one being used in the Pentax 645. additionally, Leica's processing engine may be removing most of the noise from raw files the same way canon DLSR's do.
  • The S2 Sensor is almost the same, different crop but same techno, check Kodak website.
  • That would be very Leica-unlike but who knows? If Leica want to be associated with the opposite of quality they may chose so.

Possibly, but we don't know much about how Leica works in the digital world, I guess. Panasonic, yes, Leica, no.

"High Image Quality" can mean so many things.

Well after a visit to Leica's factory in solms a while ago I noticed the meticulous assembly and alignment of the cameras components(M9) however I woudln't say that Leica uses the same technological QC that Dalsa uses. The cameras are superb, but as we know there have been issues with the Leica M8 were people have bought one and after taking it out-of-the-box the the sensor was faulty.I know there have been a few issues with the newer M9 though not of the same magnitude. I suspect that Leica is outsourcing development of firmware and hardware calibration to someone else and whether they share Leica's ideals and devotion to image quality remains to be seen.
