It's rather specific for 99% of users - to use tele prime lenses.

I agree with you, I have a Pentax 135 and often have to push myself to use it. 300 is even more of push.
However, i recall a photo magazine writer who was responding to questions:
Question: which is your favorite FL for landscapes
Answer: Something that is longer or wider than what everyone else is using.
Why: I want my images to be different.
