I own a M43mm f/1.9 and I can attest to it's jaw dropping goodness. It beat the hell out of the Voigtlander M-ultron 40mm f/1.4 especially at f/4
Leica aficionados also revere this particular lens, the same guys who snub SLR camera lenses were taken by surprise with this lens. Rumor has it the lens's optics were manufactured by pentax but the rangefinder coupling and lens mount was made by cosina. If only pentax made the FA31mm f/1.8 in M mount.
Itīs the old game with brands and names.
Same like Sony Carl Zeiss in the last years.
Canon made the lenses for Zeiss/Sony.
Same Systems in Sony S70 till S85 and the Power Shot G Series.
Same with Panasonic and Leica.
Maybe the one ore the other idea comes from Leica, but thatīs all.
Only different coatings and masterings.
What says Leica doesn't help develop the Panasonic Lumix branded lenses but don't put their label on them but saves it for lenses they think deserves it?
I've always read it as Leica to, don't know about Lumix-only lenses but I assume it could be possible?
Here's how I bet it works:
* Panasonic comes up with a lens design.
* Panasonic slides Leica a cubic shitload of money.
* Leica offers a few tips on design, slides Panasonic name usages rights.
* "Leica" ends up on a Panasonic camera.
