I totally agree with you, 50mm on APS-C is not the most convenient range in my opinion... But still they ask for it, so Pentax must offer them something.

Hopefully we'll see a DFA alternative, maybe even in F1.4 and F1.7 variants.

Unlikely I think since that FL is really saturated with alternatives, though more expensive - DA40/2.8, FA43/1.9, D-FA50/2.8 macro, FA55/1.4.

In that survey given earlier, the thing that peaked my interest the most would be something like a DAL 50mm f/1.7. Fast, cheap, good optics? I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I get the feeling that with modern AF speeds, the old FA 50 design just can't keep up and are beginning to break down.

Oh and speaking of that survey, have the results been made available somewhere?

I am hopeful that Pentax will finally role out the 50mm f1.0 and that fast 35mm, but as WR types. These to lenses were the so called leaked lenses early this year.

On the other hand, I wonder how many actually use their 50mm regularly these days.
I use three of my four...no, wait, three of my six.

Dunno what's the deal with the 55mm. I'm sure it's nice, but discontinuing the 50mm to prop up 55mm sales is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I don't see this happening without some kind of similarly priced replacement. First of all, Pentax has to make a killing on the FA 50 -- all of its R and D was covered long ago, so it is just the cost of overhead and materials that goes against it. Second, as mentioned above, every camera maker out there has a fast 50 for 350-ish and a slightly slower 50 for cheaper. I could see them replacing it, but even then, the replacement would have to be priced similarly (or cheaper) to be a worthwhile replacement.

A 50mm/1.0 is impossible with K-mount.
Max possible is 50/1.2, 85/1.4 and 135/1.8. 35/1.0 maybe.

I also asked why they did not issue a cheap 50 mm 1.8 like canon or nikon. He told me that they seemed to have other lens to issue before hand.

Hopefully you are right Adam. DFA50/1.7 would be great!
The last two (F&FA) versions are terrific....

I actually hope for a DFA f1.4 and a ~$100 DFAL(?) f2.0.

I know it's not likely, but I can hope, can't I?

Of course, if Pentax does release a 50mm f1.7 alongside a new f1.4, it will drive the prices of the older lenses back into the realm of sanity, so that could be good as well.
