Nobody have see this "The SD15 is equipped with 77-segment Evaluative Metering"?

Maybe Pentax/Hoya are starting a relation with Sigma.

I'm wondering if some anonymous company's come out with a 77-segment meter module and flogged it to both.

Or Pentax let them have it out of pity:

"Excuse, Pentax? We'd like to outfit our entire run off SD15 DSLRs with you 77-segment metering."

"Ok. We'll send over a dozen, that should cover all your sales, and give you a few in reserve for spare parts."

Good lord, but if Pentax start getting Sigma to make their lenses...*shudder*

It's quite common for large companies to sharp components & parts.

Whilst HD-DVD (Toshiba) & Blu-Ray (Sony) were at war who do you think was supplying Sony with the Cell processor used in their Blu-Ray trojan horse the PS3? Yes Toshiba. Crack open the back of any modern name brand TV and be shocked who's parts you find inside. Business is business.

As for Sigma lenses, nothing wrong with them, especially the EX serious. They cop a bad wrap from time to time with some of the quality variances, however considering the number they manufacture and sell it's no surprise.

Would be nice if they traded it for something.
you know like:
S: Hey Pent-Hoya, will you give us yours 77 segment metering module?
P: Sure, if you'll give us some nice lens design - say 8-16

Like Pentax couldn't design a better 8-16mm than Sigma...

I don't imagine it was easy otherwise they'd be a lot more out.

From all accounts its a fantastic lens.

They have not designed a better AF motor. The HSM is much better than the SDM, and I would take the 50mm Sigma over the 55mm DA* for all applications except those that require weather sealing.

As a longtime Canon user I have avoided Sigma for years since Sigma has struggled to reverse engineer Canon's AF firmware. The latest Sigma lenses however are of very good quality.

Personally I'd much rather take an existing 8-16 than a non-existing one.

From what I had read earlier I thought the Sigma 30/1.4 was very nice, but now I looked at Photozone and it seem like it may not be. Though I may have only cared about boke and not sharpness and such when I looked earlier.

For price I'd rather take Sigmas 150/2.8 macro than Nikons 105/2.8 micro VR.

Also Pentax already use the 50-135 and one or more other Tokinas as their lenses.

The Tokinas are well regarded for their buld but so is the Sigma EX, and Sigmas lens line is a hell of a lot bigger than Tokinas.

I have used the Sigma 30mm on a 4/3 mount and it is a average lens. It could definitely be sharper.

The Sigma 150mm Macro is a very good lens. Again I used it on a 4/3 body, but very sharp. 4/3 users call it the Bugma because it is a 30mm equiv. macro with excellent IQ.

I actually prefer the build of the Tokina 50-135 over the Pentax version.

(sigh) The 50-135 is a Pentax design. As is the 10-17mm fisheye. As is the 35mm macro. How many times do we have to go through this Pentax/Tokina thing?

If the deal is Pentax' metering for Sigma's HSM, then this could make quite a few Pentaxians happy! (of course, if there's a deal to begin with...)

I've been looking at these Tokina lenses for owners for other systems and it seems like they are becoming harder and harder to find. The Tokina 50-135, for example, has been discontinued according to B&H, despite getting good reviews. Maybe soon it won't matter which company designed the lens, as only one of the two will still make them

That would help so much. It might make the Pentax lenses a little more expensive but it would be worth it.
