Do either of you know if Pentax is still offering the extended warranty on the K-7for free? I believe it was for an additional 2 years, if you merely called customer service. I remember reading about this and I am still trying to find these posts..but no luck so far. So I just wondered if this was still available or if I should consider purchasing the B&H warranty. Any one have advice on this? Thx.
B&H carries the Pentax 2 year ext warranty, but they're out of stock right now,

The one I got from Adorama comes with the 2-year extended warranty inside, but that is for US residents.

Does Pentax really think they can back off the K-7 father's day special pricing and still sell K-7's? I checked the price this morning and B&H has the body only at $894.09. It was ~$765 just a week ago.

Rule 1: "If people are standing in line to buy a product, then the price is too low."

Sale prices are NOT determined by Pentax, B&H, Adorama, J&R, etc. They are determined by the consumer (you, me... us).

Keep in mind that by now, Pentax has probably recovered all of its costs (R&D, production & etc,) and met its ROI (return on investment) goals for the K-7. If that's the case, every unit sold today is 100% pure profit to them (yes, even at $1), so the sale price to the retailer is a non-issue,

What you are witnessing is an attempt by the retailer to balance supply with demand. At $765, the demand overwhelmed supply. Now, B&H is betting that $894 is correct (Adorama is betting $863, others are betting... see: Pentax K7 in-stock status matrix). Suppose no one bought at $765. Would the price have remained $765, or be higher, or lower?

Don't consider yourself as being 'victimized' by Pentax, or its retailers. Charlie Brown said it best, "We met the enemy and it was us."

Can I hear an 'Amen' for the Law of Supply and Demand...?

No worries, wait till November 2010 for better price

No worries, wait till November 2010 for better price

The K20D price did same thing, dropped somewhat low early Summer 2008, then popped up.
Then in November 2008 I added my $1299 K20D for just $689.

People like to point out the images I missed waiting,
but I already owned a dslr camera,
so all I missed out on was spending more on the camera I bought later.

Pentax unlike Canon and Nikon really drop their dslr prices by half.

This is not correct. There are two types of expenses: fixed costs and variable costs. (In the real world, it's more complicated, but for the purpose of breakeven analysis costs can be separated into fixed and variable.)

Once all fixed costs have been recovered, you still have to cover the variable costs in order to make a profit. But fixed costs are not limited to R&D. There are always ongoing fixed costs.

Once above the breakeven point, every additional unit sold increases profit by the unit contribution margin which is sales - variable costs. I guarantee you the variable costs of a K-7 greatly exceeds $1.00.

I bet the K-7 will be out of production by then!

K-7 may already be out of production

K-7 may already be out of production

Back when there was still a local Pentax Rep, before the buyout of Pentax by Hoya, he mentioned to me K10D was "out of production"
This was a few months before K10D was "officially discontinued".
I liked that Rep, his long tenure dated back to "ASAHI Pentax"

If 645D is as popular as threads imply, then why make any K-7 for one tenth the price of 645D ?

I may get a K-7

or not.

I did same with K10D opting for "not" when it was available new from BeachCamera for $509 delivered.

K20D is such a nice camera, I wish Pentax hadn't made the K-7 any smaller than K20D, but they did.

K-7 got to be $699 or less for me to decide

Can anyone tell me the real price the K7 was when it first hit shelves please

I just picked one up for 800 (buydig) and want to know how much money I saved compared to buying when it first came out or buying the rumored K7 super when it first comes out.

The press release said 1300 for the K7 body only, but did retailers sell it for less when it first hit shelves?

If it's any consolation, I payed around $1050 for the body in December 2009.

I bought mine from B&H Photo for $1,299.95 almost exactly a year ago. (July 2nd.)

Wow, that makes me feel better because with the rumored video specs of the K7 super I feel like I'm almost "settling" with the K7, but I'm just gambling on having bought the K7 at it's lowest price (or close to) and using the money I saved over the rumored K7 super to buy a dedicated HD camcorder

Thanks for the info, and was that for the body only or with a lens?

I got the K7 body, 18-55 WR, and 50-200 WR for 1155 at buydig

Body only. The difference in price vs. now is about $42/month, and I've definitely gotten that amount of use from it.

I also sold my K10D for more than I'd feel good about asking a year later.

Yeah, If B&H still had the body only in the $750 range I would be buying it today. But as it is I would hate to see the super out in two months for a couple hundred more with better video features.

I'll be playing wait and see now and making do with my K100D until the price drops again or the new model hits the streets.
