Rumour

Heard that pentax is replacing its 645 program with a full frame (24*36) dslr.

But I cannot find confirmation for this.

Oh yeah. Now I can say the same thing. But why should one? Now there are always people liking rumours. I wonder what they do with it all?

and what might be the reason that you cannot find any confirmation?

FF pentax seems extremely unlikely to arrive this or even next year. I would be shocked if that happened. (altho I would also run out on the balcony and scream YYYEEEEEEEESSSSSS!). would be a shame if the scrap the 645d after going so far with the development, and in mf pentax still has pro users and that is good. I remember i was watching a tv show where they did a pro model shoot for a photo book and to my surprise i saw a red strap with PENTAX on it around the photographers neck. that was a 645. its good marketing to have pros with pentax around their necks if u ask me.

If they made a full frame camera what new lenses would you use with it?

Kfrog hits the nail on the head. And it doesn't seem to me like Pentax have the resources to suddenly develop a lot of new lenses very quickly, even with the help of those like Tokina.

When I put the Pentax digital Roadmap in one hand and then put rumors (or wishful thinking, or wet dreams for some) like these in the other, it simply does NOT make sense.

Ahem, let's see. Future lens choices for the Pentax *PRO* DSLR: FA35, FA50, the 3 FA Limiteds and a costs-as-much-as-a-car-and-built-to-order FA*300/2.8. Nothing wrong with the quality of these lenses, just that they're far too few to be called a system, let alone one that caters to professionals.

I don't care about talk that the DA lenses are really FF lenses in another dimension.

It wouldn't make any sense to me unless they were going to put the FA lenses back in production.

The medium format digital camera made sense though.

No new FF lenses, and dwindling curent stock of existing. Not going to happen.
Only chance is a 1.3X crop factor. The DA*'s are rumored to cover enough to be that, but SR would be reduced or totaly elimanated due to image circle size.

I would love to see the 645D hit the market before the years end. That would be a major coup...

so, will we?

and then I would want a 25-45mm WW-zoom as the 33-55mm is nowhere to be found and not wide enough anyways because of the crop.
Would also make a good combo with the existing 45-85 and 80-160mm lenses.
Perfect system!
So "Bentax", what is going on?

What or Who is a "Bentax"?..What is it? A new camera I invented?

We could do a parody of the new "Bentax" camera. :-)

there won't be a FF from Pentax. All its recent developments point to APS. It will be a very bad investment to go FF because Pentax just doesn't have the resources. The 645D was much closer to completion before getting nerfed. It would be much more logical to use the defibrillator on the medium format division, slap a price tag on the 645D and start shipping than to start FF from scratch.

- Pentax doesn't have access to FF sensor.
- Pentax is in the middle to snuffing out production to their last FF lenses. (i.e. the loss of the 35/2 AL)
- To fully realize a FF sensor camera, you'd need to either redesign your lenses from the ground up like Olympus...or stick with the same flange distance and apply large vignetting reduction like Canon does in their FF DSLRs.

Stop the FF Thing

Not a chance, where on the roadmap do you see new FF lenses ..... not now ...... maybe in 3 or four years, but even then I doubt it as tech will have changed so much, the APS-C will be as good as the best FF now ..... Moot Point.
