Nope.

It's the patent for an APS-C 25-350 superzoom lens, so certainly not DA*.

It would replace the DA 18-250 which went out of production. However, let me say that 18-250 is a much more useful range for an APS-C lens and I sincerely hope Pentax will not try to market this useless superzoom focal range.

And the patent clearly states it is an APS-C, not a FF lens.

BTW, there already has been a thread about this. Look it up in this forum. We discussed that already and concluded that this lens not be desirable.

I fully agree with you that 18-250 makes a lot more sense (at least for me).

However, why would an APS-C 25-350 be "useless"? It would be an APS-C BIGMA and the latter definitely has its usages and friends.

N.B., I tried to find the other thread you mention but Google didn't find it. The only thread I found about a 25-350 through the forum search, was this one.

Might be silly bit it could also be more of a video kind lens. A lens more in the area of typical camcorders, less wide angle and more reach. Not that I would like that...

It's 500mm what makes the BIGMA a BIGMA. A 350mm BIGMA wouldn't sell. A 25-350 would only make sense if its image quality would outperform the 55-300, or if it would be much cheaper which both wouldn't be the case.

But never mind. The patent is from 2008, when Pentax switched their releases from APS-C to FF. With the advent of the 60-250 full frame lens (I've film now and still don't see vignetting -- need to scan still ...) I'm sure this 26-340 is history. Except maybe if they don't get access to the Tamron 18-270 and decide they cannot rely on the Sigma 18-250 offering.

The main thread is here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/101629-new-high-ratio-...ml#post1045700

Please, continue over there and leave this thread alone now. Thanks. At least I won't repeat what has been said before.

I think so too.
Looks like a optimized Videolens.
Rearfocus, typical zoomrange an shirt and fast fokusmechanic.
Looks like the type of Panasonics successful 14-140 zoomlens.
The onlyone with good AF in Video.
Maybe,let´s wait.

Just because they file for a patent doesn't mean they are about to put the lens into production. It protects them from somebody else using the design somewhere down the road without paying them for it.

Remember kids, if it's Pentax and of questionable use, odds are we'll see it come to market.

Star lenses never have variable aperture. So no

Yeah, definately not a DA★... but also, not as useless a lens as some here seem to think. Of course my dream lens would be a DA★ 50-500 f4. A weather resistant and constant aperture Pentax version of the BIGMA would ROCK!

But who would buy at probably around 6500USD minimum?

I would think that a Pentax 18-270mm is more likely to be on the cards.

The out of production 18-250mm is actually the Tamron 18-250mm (also out of production!!) The Tamron 18-270mm replaced the Tamron 18-250mm.
