I agree, but I still don't see DA*55 as standard lens. Not on APSC anyway.
and for the WR... well it makes for perfect street lens at 55mm and on the streets WR comes very handy...

I think what this means is that Pentax finally realized that this hood for DA*55 is just way way way too small.

It would come in handy in areas with a lot of rain or humidity!

That's true. It kinda fits the FA* 85mm hole.

It could be that NASA bought a bunch of them to press into use as rocket cones since they are on a shoe-string budget these days.

The DA*55 is absolut not out of production.
This Lens is 100% a FF lens.
In the actually pricelist,itīs still available.
But,maybe is the hood a little to long and tight for 35 mm System.
Itīs easy to find out, need only a analog Body and try.

Best regards,Andy

The hood worked fine on my ZX-60 when I was shooting some black and white for my film class. No vignetting.

Personally, I'd love to use the 55 as a standard lens!

I knew I saved that 58mm Voigtlander hood for a reason...

I find the DA* 55/1.4's IQ to be fantastic for what I use it for. It's WR is awesome for shooting in inclement weather. At 1.4 I can still shoot pictures in the dreary rain, (portrait or not). It's bokeh is dreamy. It's silent SDM is flawless. It's long hood is even better for shooting in rain. It's a shame they're doing away with it (the hood). Lets not forget the ability to shoot in the middle of a dust storm without fear of the dust ending up inside your lens.

You really get what you pay for here. If you've already decided the extra features aren't worth your money. Go buy the fragile and inexpensive FA 1.4 while it's still around, or the less fragile and manual focus A, M, and K lenses.

Or the DA*55/1.4 doesn't sell so they decided to kill it. If Pentax was trying to make this lens FF compatible, it would be one of the most expensive Japanese standard prime in history.
This would quickly elevate this lens to legendary status. Glad I already bought mine. Everyone else best buy one quick before they disappear.

LOL, this thread shows how badly Pentaxians long for a FF body.

Come on Pentax, listen to your user base!

I was going to start a thread claiming that Pentax had discontinued the current camera strap which would obviously mean that it was being replaced with a stronger strap that could cope with the awesome power of a FF body. Not to mention that Hoya had changed suppliers of boxes since the current cardboard was only fit for APS-C cameras.

The signs are there if only you look for them. Next stop is the advertising campaign with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Yes many user would like have a full frame pentax but they don't listen (unfortunately).

About the 55 mm i hope on some new 50 (same bokeh) but f/2 so a lot more cheap (and good at f/2 from the start).

Note:
At good price, of course, and for the moment i don't see good price for full frame dslr.
