Wow. One of the world's most anticipated cameras, that has all sorts of photogs drooling all over it, and thousands of pre-orders.

Bet CRK manages to shag this up, somehow.

People who don't play the lotto for that reason, probably lack the math skills required to understand that playing lotto may be entirely rational.

The 645D is already on eBay for $14k for body + lens for anyone in Oz who really wants it - and is prepared to pay the GST on the import:

NEW PENTAX 645D 645 D CAMERA + D FA DFA 55mm F2.8 F/2.8 - eBay, Digital SLR, Digital Cameras, Cameras. (end time 15-Jul-10 23:00:26 AEST)

That looks identical to the current CRK price.

Extra focussing screens, lens hood, carrying cases etc are also now on eBay.

I have already purchased 4 Sandisk extreme 8GB memory cards.I wished they made those SD cards to the same spec as the extreme IV CF ones.

the timing is convenient for me, my birthday is on the 6th.

As long as there is a $ ,000.00 in the price, its way out of my league. Its too large, too heavy, too cumbersome, files are too large, and requires too much photographic skills for this humble picture shooter (anyway - those are my excuses - and I am sticking to them)....

Anyway, a friend flew down to Oz over the weekend for meetings this week. Promised to bring me back a shrimp from the Barbe and a beer. I bet that upon his return on Thursday, he has neither.

I had a play with the demo model last night (doing the rounds of the Aussie states) at the Adelaide Camera Club meeting.

The retailer here in Adelaide (Photographic Wholesalers) said it would sell for about AUD$14000 with the 55mm lens - about the same as the Vanbar offering when you combine the lens and 645D.

However, the camera was a beauty! It felt well balanced (despite its mass) with the 55mm SDM lens on it. Snappy focus, magnificent display and viewfinder (including the viewfinder info), the menus (as has been already stated) are great and like the K7 & Kx, and the controls are all there and pretty intuitive.

This is one magnificent camera , and if I had the money would be on my wish list.

As an aside, we had a play with a few other cameras like the Sony NEX5 and Alpha 390 dSLR, the Samsung NX10, some P&S offerings from Canon, Panasonic and Sony, as well as lighting systems and bags.

The NEX5 was very impressive and extremely light. The NX10 was more like an dSLR in feel and build. If I wanted a lightweight travel kit, the NEX5 might be a contender.

Cheers
