Again, is this conjecture or reliable information?

That looks like a lot of new products for even a single year.

What would possess Pentax to design an entirely new from scratch 10-22/f2.8 when Tokina has a 11-16/2.8 that by all accounts is just superb. Folks around here have been waiting for that for over 2 years now. Just add WR seals and their done....
That'd be cool indeed, but...

The fact that I've been waiting 2 years like a dumb*** for such a DA* 11-16mm F/2.8 lens to become available is actually what makes me believe that Pentax would rather design a DA*10-22 from scratch instead of adapting the Tokina design.

If Tokina had agreed to share this design with Pentax, I'm sure we would've seen this DA 11-16/2.8, by now!

Or Pentax decided not to release more DA*. It's my wishful thinking that no more pro grade crop lenses will be released since the upcoming pro camera will be FF. But again, it's in my own mind

I have red through the entire thread. It has left me in awe. You guys realy know what to want and why and why it is possible, probable, yes or no.
Here I sit, with my laptop and coffee on the couch. This afternoon I shall track into the woods and to a watermill at a lovely little rivulet. And I will bring some equipment. And make a few pics.

If ever I was allowed to see a wish granted of course I would go with the larger resolution of a mf system. But then I quess I would not, it might be plain to heavy to lug around for me.

I guess I settle for a beautiful modern wr 85 and/or 135 mm, 2.5 . But I like to add that my deepest wishes go out for at least 10 aperture blades. A combination of 2.5 and a lot of aperture blades would make for fantastic round bokeh and great dof. I think 2.5/2.8 is enough for this goal, dof shouldn't be too thin.

Well, I have some (very)old glass that does the trick. We will see what happens in september, I think I will go to Köln to visit photokina. I know the spot as it is where my sons go to visit the games conventions. It is not far from where I live.

I am missing something. How would this lens enable any photography that cannot already be done with the already excellent DA12-24? Would you pay double for a lens that was one stop faster and went one point wider? What the heck for?

It's a pipe dream in the rumours section. As always.

For taking pictures of e.g. houses interriors meant to go on sale. You need wide/very wide and you need light.

I do not do this personaly but I know those who do often cry for fast WA/UWA lenses.

Fast lenses do not matter for this application. DOF and lack of distortion matter. Nothing moves in an interior shot, so one can use long exposures. Most architecture photogs do not use UWA lenses at all, but rather get out their trusty Canon tilt-shift, the latest versions of which are much improved in terms of IQ. They stop down to f/11 or so to get the best compromise between sharpness and DOF. Bracketing is common when using exterior light to avoid burnt out windows.

My advice would be to get a Canon D5 and the 24mm T/S. Or get a K-7 and the FA31, a good pano head and some decent stitching software. If you need to use an UWA for convenience, the DA12-24 would be perfectly fine. It's going to be on a tripod at f/11 anyway.

Sorry, I'm not sure what I was thinking. Probably about the 43 f1.9, which created a 49 in my mind...

I would be very surprised if they came out with another DA lens. That almost equates to a denial of some sort.

When I finally saved up enough lunch money for the 12-24, Tokina had just released the 11-16/2.8. I thought at the time that just as soon as I bought the 12-24 Pentax would follow with its version of the 11-16. Obviously, they didn't. I thought about it for a minute and decided that I wanted the zoom range rather than the speed and then just went ahead and bought the 12-24. I have not regretted it one moment. The speed would have been nice at the Air Force museum - its a black hole, but a tripod and 6 to 10 second shutter times fixed that. There are times that wider would have been nice, but, they are stitchable. Any wider than 12 and I think that the distortion would have been too great. Everything is a compromise.

I have given up wondering exactly what Pentax will do. Just as long as my screw drive lenses are supported going forward, so that I can upgrade when warranted - I'll be happy. I have saved quite a long time to acquire what I have and am very happy with what I have been able to pick up, and they support what I shoot. I could have done a lot worse, and probably not have been able to afford any better.

10-17, 12-24, 16-45, 31, 55-300, 2X, K20, K100

Nice!

I too am grateful for what I have, which I might not have been able to afford at today's prices. On the other hand, had I gone digital a couple years earlier I'd have far more (likely Taks). So it goes.

My Pentax line-up has similarities to yours:
12-24, 16-45, 43, 50, 77, 55-300, K20, K100DS

Plus Vivitars in:
24, 28, 105

Huh? It's not denial; it's called commitment.

yup.... Not saying there is a chance of it ever happening.

IF I could get down to just one system I could do all of my work with 5 primes and 2 zooms. I do the bulk of my work now with 3 primes and 3 zooms, but I used Canon and Olympus so I have some overlap withe 24-70L and the 14-35 f/2. Olympus is so involved with m4/3 that they have abandoned 4/3 and who knows what the E-3 replacement will look like. I had planned on upgrading my Canon 5D for a Sony A900, but Sony also appears to hesitant to develop the upper line.

Pentax appears to be headed in the right direction with the K-7 and the 645D is encouraging. I know Pentax users love their Limited lenses, but so far I have not been real impressed. My 35-100 f/2 zoom is sharper than any Pentax Limited lens I have seen. Pentax does have some unique focal length lenses, but AF is slow, vignetting is a problem, and CA seems to be common. I wish the K-7 was offered in a 4/3 mount and I could just keep the Olympus glass. The K-7 is the body I had hoped my E-3 would be. Olympus however seems to have abandoned primes for the most part.

I don't have a problem with the K-7 high-ISO noise IF I can get fast/sharp glass for it. Sharpness at fast apertures is more important to me than a little noise, and I will buy a $2,000 lens before I will a $2,000 body. Bodies come and go, but good glass is a good investment.
