K100D Super

Yeah.. so it is available on Pentax's site for purchase..

I saw someone here say it was available in Europe WEEKS ago.

Yet no one on this site has posted saying that they have bought it.

Why is that?

The K100D is under $400 now with the rebate (Beach Camera and BuyDig). The only places I'm seeing the K100D Super in stock have it at $600. As far as I understand, the K100D Super isn't included in the current rebate so that price difference might be the reason nobody is buying it. I knew it was coming out when I bought my K100D a few weeks ago but the higher price wasn't justifiable for me.

I'm afraid the K100D Super is going to turn out to be a dud. The spread between it and the K10D is not enough to attract a market. The k100D is such an unbelievable buy I know I couldn't justify the extra price of the Super. The DA* lenses are not going to be of interest to somebody buying a $$400-600 body. It seems that once again the marketing department has failed to take advantage of what the engineering department is capable of delivering. It's common for companies to be driven by either marketing, engineering, or manufacturing. Pentax is definitely not driven by marketing.

regards,
Ken

HAha it really is too bad that Pentax doesn't have the marketing presence that Canon and Nikon enjoy. Pentax offers much better value than their equivalent competitors at the canikon camps.

It will be of interest to those wanting a second/third body.

I just found this thread after posting elsewhere about ordering a K100D for my wife. She dismissed the Super right away, $170 more (B&H prices) to use high speed lenses (which we won't buy), dust shaker (not too effective), and a few modes she won't use (she is a manual control person).

If the Super cost slightly more than standard and had the same rebate we would have ordered it. Maybe in 4 months it will drop that low, but who wants to wait?

yea. Much to my delight, the annoucement of the K100D SUper helped drive down the price of the K100D.

Yea like even now I've barely touched all the buttons on my K100D. Av and M being the only two modes of use.

You can use the DA* lenses with all Pentax digital SLR cameras, including the K100D. The SDM will not be activated but the lens will autofocus the good, old way, where the motor in the camera budy does the work.

Right now on BH Photo you can buy the K100d body for $400, with the $50 rebate its only $350.

I've been debating whether I should get the k100d super or just go with the old one. I'm thinking I'm going to go with the older one too because the added functions and inept dust removal don't justify the additional $170.

I just priced my whole kit out and its a steal:

Pentax K100d body-$350
Sigma 17-70mm lens-$325 new on ebay
Cokin filter holder and rings-$50
Hitech Grad ND 2 and 3 stop filter-$80
Sigma 70-300mm lens (interchangable for my SLR)-$130
2 SD Cards-$40
Filters (UV and Polarizer)~$100

All this for the amazing price of ~$1100.

I figure for a hobbyist/enthusiast like me this will give me the best chance to get some new equipment for my old ZX-L and start out in the digital work. Given that all the other equipment I am buying will be compatible on any new Pentax models that come out, I will be all set if I decide to get whatever is around the corner. I figure I will get more out of being able to manipulate my framing and light than I will get out of the additional 4MP that the K10D offers.

The filters on BH. I've seen several of the 17-70mm lenses for <$350 on ebay.

K100D Super

I actually just talked to a local Camera store today about the difference between the K100D and the K100D Super.. It is interesting that no one has seen the Super for less because that is how it is here..

K110 - 519.99
K100D - 619.99
K100D Super - 569.99
K10D - 919.99

I realize these are high retail prices but the super is still lower and does include the $50.00 rebate.. So to me the super would be the better buy..

The K10D almost sounds too "specify" for this amatuer... but the 10 MP is a nice option versus the 6.1.. but I dont blow things up more than 8 X 10.. so the cost justification just isnt there for me right now.

A lot of people don't agree with me on this but one of the things I like about what your buying is if Pentax ever comes out with a body with a sensor larger than APS-C you are set to go. When you are ready to upgrade the body you will be able to get a large portion of your $350 back, or keep it as a very inexpensive second camera.

The only down side is I now have another person that is going to be bidding on some of those old lenses. Welcome aboard and post some photos.

Regards,
Ken

At those kind of prices it would be a cold day----. I may be wrong but I don't think there is a rebate on the super. IMO the K100D at $350 is an absolute steal. It would take a drastic drop in pricing for it to fall below $200 on the used market. So that means at the worst you would be able to use it for 3-4 years and get back all but $150. That is a buy.

Regards,

Ken
