I'll stick with the DA 18-55 WR kit lens. I can live with a half stop loss in maximum aperture at the wide end and two stops at the long end. It's much lighter and smaller in size and sharpness is good. More importantly it's a lot cheaper.

Why is there a five-stars rating for this thread, just curious.
Is this new Sigma lens a revelation or what?

Here in Aus the sigma 17-50/2.8 OS HSM is $819 and the pentax 16-50/2.8 is Aus$1400!
Just FYI, if you're thinking of getting one, you should be able to get it for A$743 + shipping from digidirect; I've dealt with them before and they're pretty decent.

Sigma is doing what Pentax can't - relatively cheap, sharp, EXcelent lens with ring HSM and optical stabilizer.

LOL and shame
Yawn. Call me when Sigma can produce a weather sealed lens, let alone a lens as sharp as the Pentax DA* 16-50.

Any new lens in K-mount is newsworthy!

The Photozone review is encouraging. The light fall-off in the corners is disappointing, but it seems most people are willing to deal with this to get a smaller/lighter lens. Overall sharpness is impressive, and the cost is very reasonable for the IQ. We will have to see a few more reviews to see if other people get the same results of if there is significant variation is quality.
I have the 85mm on pre-order and I am hoping this generation of Sigma lenses have taken another step forward in quality and consistency.

1) WR is a very unclear thing. Yes, Sigma lens won't survive tropical storm, but small rain - surely. I ofter take photos during small rain, for 2-3 hours, and nothing gets damaged. I even did this many times with Canon 350D and Pentax K100D and my wife did with Pentax *istDS. Also lots of shooting at -30^C.

2) Sharp? Are you kidding? Sigma 18-50/2.8 is a very sharp lens. In fact, it is slightly sharper than 16-50.These lens were tested (Sigma 18-50, Pentax 16-50 and Tamron 17-50). All lens are almost same.

I expect this to be a big success for sigma, especially among nikon users! The stabilised tamron 17-50/2.8 had poor IQ vs its non stabilised version, so there is really no competition.
As for WR, i'd be much more concerned about lenses with built in motors and IS than camera driven lenses.
