nope...a DA* 70-200 would probably kill the DA* 50-135 sales not to mention likely being more expensive. Possibly around the price of Nikkor 70-200 VRII.

In the near future, Pentax will come out with a 70-200 f2.8 which will fit on the FF body.

They would be stupid to put such lens to market. No one would buy. I can imagine much uses for their lens department resources.

When somebody make a joke, he/she must put ! at the end of sentence.
I'll buy such a lens.

Yes, it appears there is a rumor about this. In fact, a double rumor contained in one short sentence!

Unless, of course, someone chooses to do what they want to do, not what you want them to do.

In which case you must state you're doing so.

It is not a joke. I'm pretty sure only few people would buy it.
Most users are either happy with Da*50-135, DA*60-250 or bought alternative 70-200 from other manufacturer.
There are other lenses that could make greater impact, like a compact fast prime (24/2 , 28/2?).

You have a 28/2. It's called the 31 Ltd.

I'm hoping Tamron releases the 70-200 with their new USD motor and VC. Sigma's new 70-200 f/2.8 HSM OS is $1,700 which is getting close to premium lens price. I want to see some reviews because the current Sigma is not very good compared to the Tamron (which is cheaper).

Pentax might not make a 70-200, but Tokina could and offer it in a Pentax mount. Since Pentax is not going to revive its FA* glass like the 80-200 or 85mm, maybe they could license the designs to Tokina and Tokina could put them out in all mounts.

The occasional convert from other systems will come on these forums and one typical question is, what can i buy in this zoom range. I think to be a robust system, Pentax needs to come out with some zooms in which the system has holes.

I'm not against primes at all, enjoy them, like to carry them, but for some applications they just don't work very well. pentax is missing sales for some common zooms.

I suggest Pentax build some FF zooms like these:

Pentax FA 24-70 f2.8 (I couldnt' wait and bought the Tamron 28-70 f2.8 but i could use wider)

the op's FA 70-200 f2.8 (although i wouldn't buy one, the 50-135 is lighter and i like it)

For the shooting i do, live theatre and downtown areas, i find the existing Pentax zooms that break at the 50 and 60mm FL are not what i want. I would have the 17-70 by now but the f4 was the deal breaker on that one.

Pentax FA 24-70 f2.8 (for sure)

(insert your favorite missing zoom :-))

I agree. I like using the old FF glass on ASP-C sensors. 24-70 & 70-200 on a 1.5 crop body are ideal zooms for when I need a zoom. I very rarely shoot wide glass.
