I could see the K-7 replacement using the same body as the K-7, but I doubt Pentax will release a new model line with the same body. Nobody ever does that.

Canon: 1D, 5D, 7D 50D Rebel = all have different bodies.
Nikon: D3, D700, D300, D90, Dxxx = All have different bodies.

There are rare occasions where a camera manufacturer will make a stripped down version of a body like A850 is an A900 light, or the Olympus E-600 is a stripped down E-620.

Personally I think a K-5 should be slightly bigger, allow for a bigger battery, dual image processors for a faster frame rate, and have a larger VF with greater magnification.

If they are recycling all of the K-7 physical features and just updating the sensor, AF, SR, & image processor, then that is more in line with a K-7 Super. Like what Canon did with the 1DIII -> 1DIV or the step up from a 5D to a 5DII.

I completely don't get the Pentax product numbering scheme (assuming their will be a K-5).

K10 ==> K20 ==> K7 ==> K5
K10D/K20D===>made by Pentax
K-7/K-x===>released by Hoya,New starting point

Lets hope the new camera will have live histogram and live view in OVF. This features will give Pentax significant advantage over the other brands.
that's the patent.but only one of many...

C'mon EOS 20D -> 30D -> 40D -> 50D is the same body with a couple minor tweaks (speaking about body I mean).

If thats come true together with the rumoured high ISO capabilities of the new Sony sensor and with better AF module it could be very tempting to upgrade from my K10D. And if they can bundle it with an upgraded DA* 16-50

...and as he said, they're all cameras in the same model line.

What he's saying is that there wouldn't be two different model lines sharing the same basic body design, just like Canon (for example) don't use the same body design for their XXD cameras, and their Rebel cameras.

Except that by all accounts this K-5 is an update - like the K10D - K20D. The fact that the K-7 will remain on sale "for a while" is potentially stock related.

And anyway people seem to have forgotten that Pentax said that one of the models is a minor update - if this is the K-5 it seems completely reasonable that it has basically the same body as the K-7.

Of course I think the K-7s body is pretty good.

As do I
And if the K-7 came with Kx DR and noise performances, I would have two of them here instead of K20's in my kit. Though I still think that if Pentax follow through with that(this round) that they will still be in a good position with respect to the competition. My only request would be that they added ISO25600 to the system rarher than 12800 because I honestly beleive we could squeeze that out of that sensor.

Thank you...... I often wonder if people actually read any of the posts they respond to.

K-. != K-5 != K-r, right?

Are the K-. and K-5 bodies different and if so, in what way?

For a street photographer the K-7 form factor might be ideal but I recently handled the Sony α850 and it was so much more comfortable to get all of my fingers on the grip. And the viewfinder...drool.
