What did you pay for the Nikon converters???
Tricky question. The 1.4x was part of a package when I got all the new stuff, so it was brand new. So can't really separate out the cost for it.

The 1.7x was 2nd hand and cost NZ$400.

fyi the kenko tc does work with sigma hsm and i think the kenko does have SMC because the glass looks exactly like the glass on my DA limited's in terms of colour and reflections.

I prefer a 1,4x wr and to preserve AF with F4 lens.

My view is that it has to be a 1.4x converter. It presumably would be matched to the Pentax
flagship long primes ---- the 200 and 300 DA* both of which are F4 lenses. If you knock 2 f stops off an F4 lens then the auto focus and auto exposure functions are in trouble.

I own both of the old dedicated converters---- the 1.4x-L and the 2x-L You really need to start out with an F2/8 or faster prime to be able to use a 2x converter.

I think they should make both a 1,4x and a 2x. While for the 300/4 the 2x could be a challenge for the AF to function quickly, it would be great on the 200/2,8. The 200/2,8 with both rear converter could be a much more useful lens, like the 300/2,8 with rear converters is on FF.

I would favour 1.4X at approx $300US.
I would not like to see it too much more expensive, but being SDM, I would not know what production of such a unit would cost.
I say $300 but would wait and see cost and evaluate then.

Don't think it'd be useful or of much interest at all until SDM lenses are replaced with ultrasonic auto focusing motors. Considering the speed of SDM autofocus, I doubt many would be interested in slowing the autofocus even further.

one more vote for 1.4x SMD WR TC, I think it is sorely lacking in the current lineup, and it should be optimized for DA* 300 most of all.

An SDM converter would be great, but I think the dream setup would be a Pentax version of the Sony lens that's coming out this year - 200-400mm (f/4) with an INTERNAL 1.4x converter that can be turned on and off. That way, no messing around with attaching a separate piece of glass.

I fully realize I'm dreaming, but it's nice to dream sometimes.

My two cents.

Alas, but not a Pentax path. While I've owned and enjoyed competitive brand products on a number of occasions and appreciate their existence (often at less costs than the brand name product, I have often also traded around, and found that buying competitive brands is a lot more fun than selling the stuff, as there are often few potential buyers sufficiently familar with the competitive brands to recognize values---even if its there making it hard to get your money back
