I ask because,Pentax Japan is asking if there is any interest for the converter.
It seems that Pentax have no idea that we wanna have one!
Give them the Dear Pentax thread to start with.

1.4x-1.5x, $250-300 (if high quality), used for DA*50-135, DA*300.

Zackspeed, like someone else said if you can make this a poll you'd probably get the response you're looking for. But count me in!

There are already decent quality 3rd party TCs with SDM contacts ranging from 1.4-3x that retail from USD130-160. I think there is a good market for pentax branded TCs in two parts of the market:
  1. DA* TCs, with weather sealing and pro-grade optics.
  2. An SDM remake of the AF 1.7, to bring SDM autofocus to legacy glass.
If prices for the AF1.7 in the second-hand market are anything to go by, there is significant effective demand. It's certainly a great means by which Pentax could leverage new profit from the world's stock of old K mount lenses.

Although not strictly speaking a TC, there's also room for extension tubes with SDM and other lens contacts. If the rumoured EVIL has a different registration distance, the right sized extension tube could do double duty in restoring registration compatibility for existing K mount lenses.

A 1.4 x TC and the rumoured 400f4 to fit with; I hope...
There is too much image quality degradation with the 2X models (event with the 2XL)

If there was a 1.5x SDM WR TC, I might actually buy a DA 200mm f2.8 to go with it. I would also like a WR SDM 1.5x TC for use with the 50-135mm for those times when I don't want to carry the 200mm.

If Pentax came out with a WR 2x TC, I might actually buy the DAF 100mm WR f2.8 macro to go with it. As the 100mm WR macro isn't SDM, the only things the 2x TC would need are WR and very high quality. Actually if they matched the TC to this specific lens, that would be enough.

As for prices, does it matter if it moviates me to buy other Pentax products as well?

Thank you
Russell

Tekade asked the same question a while ago on a German forum and the interest was low.

With APS-C there isn't much need for a TC.
More interesting would be a macro converter/tube.

Pentax SDM Teleconverter Interest

I would buy a Pentax 1.4X SDM teleconverter. The 50-135 SDM lens I have works great in manual mode with a 1.4X Tamron converter. A matched Pentax converter with auto focus would be great. What is Pentax waiting for?

I subscribe for the Pentax 1.4 TC - price for about 200 euros. I think that if i'll need extra reach, i'll just use it with the 60-250

regards,
Tudor

1,4x; USD$250; DA300 would go nicely with this [could it make sense with the DA*55? I know that's a stretch but if the shorter primes could get a boost like this it could be useful eg. the Limiteds.]

1.4, SDM and weather sealed to match DA* 300.
2.0 - yes, if they can maintain decent IQ.
Don't have to be cheap, if the qualtiy is there.

Oh yea it would also be useful on my D-FA 100 WR!

@ Openyourap: you say "there are already decent 3rd-party TC with SDM contacts"- correct me if I'm wrong but nothing is currently in production for Pentax mount; the Tamron 1.4x and Kenko 1.5x show up on the forum marketplace occasionally and demand premium prices. I have the Tamron 1.4 TC, which seems to work well with my DA*300 but very poorly on my DA*50-135. An actual Pentax-made, high quality SDM/WR TC would be most welcome.

I'd love a reasonably priced TC (somewhere in the neighborhood of $200), something like 1.4 or 1.7. If it would offer SDM that would be a plus. I'd really like one that would AF - it would be nice to have that as an option/help with both my manual focus macro and the DA*300.

While I can dream about longer lenses like a DA*400 or DA*600, bottom line is that I'd never be able to afford one. A TC is the only way I'll be able to go longer than 300, and I sure would like the option on occasion, not to mention that there are times I'd like more magnification for macro without reducing the focus distance.

If they would come out with the 1.7 AF TC again, I'd buy it in a heart-beat. It seems like I never have the money when I see someone selling one.

1.4 would be great for starters.
Must be highest quality weatherproof.
Designed for the DA*300 f4.
Price equivalent to best Tamron/Sigma ones would be fine.

I was very disappointed when the DA*1.4 disappeared from the lens road map.
Really they need to look at 400/500/600mm f4 lenses as well but these are for a different market than any teleconverter.

You could be right! The brand new converters that tom1803 has been regularly selling on the marketplace might be just the remaining stock from the last production run (he describes them as "New Old Stock"). Certainly, the Kenko website only lists its entire range of converters with mounts for the 2 majors, and some also with Alpha mounts.

All the more reason for Pentax to get with the program and release some new converters.
