It may behoove Pentax/Hoya imho

to offer a very high quality 1.4x tc at not a terribly high price... a carrot at the end of a stick in order to lead the sale of long lenses.

They can see the logic in that, and one can imagine they have already thought through all of the various scenarios.

My two yen.

I would buy both 1.4x and 2x TCs for my DA* 200mm f/2.8
Price doesn't matter.

So,actually new try. Please little bit more realistic
It is not possible to made a high quality converter in same range like DA*300 for 200€ or $.
Compare here,

Canon Extender EF 1.4x III Konverter - Canon EF

Canon Extender EF 1.4x III Tele bei billiger.de - Preisvergleich mit TÜV-Zertifikat

Good Picture Quality, same range like DA*300
1,4x
WR,SDM.
approx. 450€

is it interesting?
Low PQ is not wanted.

Best regards,Andy

I personally don't think that a TC for EUR 450 makes sense. Cropping makes more sense in most situations, doesn't it?

A TC over EUR 300 would have to add AF to MF lenses and have exceptional IQ.

In any event, it would aggrevate the K-5's low-light focusing issues which are still not fixed.

The problem is that with those Canon TC's you use them with an appropiate lens like 400mm/f2.8 and there is a logical sence in how much a TC may cost and how expensive a lens is.

300/f4 would make a 420mm/f5.6 lens with a TC and that doesn't make sence with a 450 euro TC. (to me).

If Pentax would make a DA*80-200mm/f2.8 and sell with that a 1.4 TC then you have a good combo for wich you can obsolete the 300/f4 out of your collection and thus making it more interesting to buy and spend 400 euro on it.

Market researchers know that "interested" does not mean "will buy". Let's face it, most of us would be interested in learning more but the subset that will shell out serious money is much smaller.

Let's ask the question a different way:

How much would you pay for a 1.4 and how much for a 2.0?

We may get answers from "USD $50 just to see how much I'd use it" to "$500 and I'd put it to use directly".

Price does matter .....

I'll vote for USD $250 for 1.4 supporting SDM/DC and screw-mount. $50 if I have to go all manual.

And yours?

For a 1.4 that had comparable quality to the old 1.4x-L, I'd be willing to go as high as $500. (I would not be interested in a lower quality 1.4 at any price). I would buy it as soon as it was released.

I have no interest in 2.0 converter.

I would gladly pay 400-450 euro for a high quality, WR, SDM compatible 1.7x TC. I'm not interested in lower quality stuff, as I'd match it with the excellent 60-250 f/4.
A similar 1.4x would do, however Pentax proved they can make a very good 1.7x TC (the extra reach would be useful). Not interested on a 2.0x.

A longer tele lens? A necessity for the system IMO, but it would be expensive. I'm afraid a 2000euro DA* 400mm f/4 is just a dream.
