A 1.4 x TC and the rumoured 400f4 to fit with; I hope...
There is too much image quality degradation with the 2X models (event with the 2XL)
In spades plus a 1.7x ! (perfect for surf work)

I would buy the pair, 1,4x and 2x, but only if it is on par, quality wise, with the old manual L-converters for the A lenses, whatever the cost.

Of a converter of lesser quality, like the F-converter, I would have no use...

1.4x or 1.5x. Competitively priced. A higher quality optical construction is preferred. A converter in a league with Tamron 1.4x Pz (which already supports SDM btw) should be $200 or below.

A better one could be more expensive. All depends on the resolving power of lens+converter. A converter resolving 5µm with a DA*300 (or a forthcoming longer lens) would be very valuable indeed.

Last but not least: A 1.4x/1.5x converter with outstanding quality retrofits all available APSC-only glass to full frame and its pure existance could fuel some more investments into DA glass

I'd be interested in their same 1.7x F converter redone to use SDM instead of the screw drive.

I'd be willing to go as high as $400 for a 1.4x converter that matched the quality of the old 1.4x-L.

If it's an either/or choice I'd prefer a 1.4x/1.5x, but obviously both that an a 2x would be better. Intended for use with longer glass (DA*300 and future longer lenses). Pricewise I'd say somewhere around the equivalent Sigma ones which should be enough for high quality ones.

I am buying two or three SDM lenses later this year.

I would be interested in a 1.4 tc.

I think 1.7x would be fine when will be in good optical quality :-) it gives more range than 1.4x and better IQ then 2.0x :-) it also gives reasonable focal lengths with most of lenses :-) so I'm for the 1.7x :-)

I don't see the value in a 2x converter given the 'slow' telephotos now provided.
With the F2.8 300 mm telephoto the 2x converter makes sense, but I see it being used
only with the 300 F4 and you can't afford 2 fstops. You wind up too slow opticially to be useful, and if you destroy the image optically, then you have also destroyed the option of an optical crop.

I consider it shameful that Pentax do not produce any SDM TCs. Surely they are one of the simplest things to produce, they already have the know-how from previous models.

They had a prototype of a DA series TC when the DA series lenses were first being announced and released. It was even on some lens road maps. After the Glass-Makers bought Pentax, it disappeared from the map. Just think. If kerr or Mason Jar bought Pentax, we could get our lenses from the cupboard and just use an adapter.
