Originally posted by Rondec The D3100 will start at around 700 dollars, not sure what it will be with the Kit lens. I think that it is targeted at the T2i. I doubt it will hurt Kx sales that much (although Pentax could release an update) since it will be priced a couple of hundred dollars more than the kx.
At Amazon the kit (D3100 + 18-55 mm kit lens) sells for $699 (€599) and the two lens kit (D3100 + 18-55 + 55-200) sells for $950.
In the Netherlands you can buy a K-x with 18-55 kit lens for €479 and in the two lens kit for €570 (18-55 + 50-200) or €695 (18-55 + 55-300). In the Netherlands the Rebel T2i (550D) is sold for about €100,- more than the D3100, but the 1000D (which DPreview used as a comparator) is significantly cheaper.
All in all the folks at DPreview are enthousiastic about this new Nikon, but I have to admit that I am not impressed by its features. The K-x is a lot cheaper in the Netherlands and I do not think that the extra money spend on the D3100 will get you really better pictures.
So, now we have to wait to see what Pentax has done with this sensor and what kind of features we will see on the K-r model. I am excited!
