Well, indeed, if they make sufficient profit from their high-end products, they will be "encouraged" as you say, to introduce new ones and keep innovating. One cannot possibly say that Pentax don't innovate. Say, K10D seems to be the very first camera that allowed on-board RAW->JPG conversion. K-7 seems to be the very first camera to offer 100% viewfinder in its price segment. And likely this list can be made longer. I bought brand new K10D and brand new K-7, which in Israel means American MSRP and some hefty taxation to boot. So, I think I can say that some of my money should have reached someone across the globe all right
.
I am happy with my gear to that end that I seem to have learned how to get the results I want. But then again, I was very happy about K10D and it took me time and deliberation to shell out for K-7, main reason being my daughter who inherited K10D from me with some lenses.
But even if I bought some lenses brand new (FA 31, DA 21, FA 43) over past few years, I'd like to see Pentax innovate more boldly, if you want. So, yes, I guess I have my reasons to complain.
