Boris, I believe Pentax can be "encouraged" to launch a FF camera only if more and more people would buy their high-end products. If the new high-end camera would sell (without huge discounts), maybe... but still, I won't hold my breath. It looks like you did your part, hopefully enough people would to theirs.
Well, indeed, if they make sufficient profit from their high-end products, they will be "encouraged" as you say, to introduce new ones and keep innovating. One cannot possibly say that Pentax don't innovate. Say, K10D seems to be the very first camera that allowed on-board RAW->JPG conversion. K-7 seems to be the very first camera to offer 100% viewfinder in its price segment. And likely this list can be made longer. I bought brand new K10D and brand new K-7, which in Israel means American MSRP and some hefty taxation to boot. So, I think I can say that some of my money should have reached someone across the globe all right .

I am happy with my gear to that end that I seem to have learned how to get the results I want. But then again, I was very happy about K10D and it took me time and deliberation to shell out for K-7, main reason being my daughter who inherited K10D from me with some lenses.

But even if I bought some lenses brand new (FA 31, DA 21, FA 43) over past few years, I'd like to see Pentax innovate more boldly, if you want. So, yes, I guess I have my reasons to complain.

Blende8, OK, I understand you have reasons to want such things. But from wanting to being disappointed if they're missing... IMHO, no one should be disappointed if they'll launch an excellent camera (like they usually do) - even if some desirable features are left out.

Boris, we're talking the same language I would also like them to be bolder - hopefully the 645D would give them a hint (and, if the new high-end camera would be a success...)
I have nothing against constructive criticism and reasonable requests.

Ogl, you're all talk.

PENTAX K-5:
- 16 million pixels (SONY new sensor)
- ISO 25600
- 7 frames per sec
- ¥ 139,000 (too high price - $1625 )
- announcement on September 20
- Released in mid-October

PENTAX KR:
- 12 million pixels
- 6 frames per sec
- 10 color of body and 12 color grip, as the combination 120 colours
- 74,800 yen ($875)
- Released in mid-October
If you have a reliable source for the price in yens, you can't deduce the price in dollars with a basic currency convertion; the price for US market - as for Europe market - is based on several other factors, marketing trategy, including the price of the competition on that market; otherwise, the assumption that it will cost 1625 euros in europe should be wrong. The currency is not 1 dollar for 1 euro (more or less it is now 1.3 dollars for an euro). This price in euros is also a marketing strategy; all brands sells more or less the lenses and bodies with a equivalent of 1 euro for 1 dollar; but it is only a marketing strategy

I will hold by breath and wait 1 month till Photokina 2010.

If K-5 is APS for $1600/€1600 - goodbye Pentax , welcome Nikon (colors in raw are almost OK and my wife needs prof. FF camera and flashes for weddings, I need cam for wildlife and pocket canon s95 for genre and everyday).

:ugh:

It wont be better - No ring SDM, No FAST SDM lenses, No Prof. Tele, No large enough amount of people to buy it.
Will be EPIC FAIL like MZ-D.

1300-1400 Euro would mean initial K7 price.
This does not sound like a camera above the K7, but like an evolutional update of the K7.

That would be something.

I'm convinced that HOYA is clever enough to realize that gaining market share and new pentaxians needs a camera offer (tech/prize) that stands out. K-7 with a new 16Mp sensor would not imo. Sensor + blazing AF would.

Regarding the price... Anyone who knows how much the K-7 was in Yen when new? I guess they have VAT so a direct translation to US$ is not the best way to calculate.
