can someone please explain why people are obsessed with FF - the only thing i can see that cant be replicated in apc is the shallower DOF - but with a f1.4 lens you can still knock the background out of focus rather easily - the rest..... well you get longer effective focal length so can do wildlife shots without nearly such expensive glass and the wide end we are jsut as well catered for in aps-c

so throw in a 35mm f1.4 and a 80mm f1.8 and should be fine for portrait work with aps-c no?? then with benefits of aps-c on top?

There are some advantages; there are some people who just love to complain.

sensor technology is moving at pace though and rapidly getting as good iso in aps-c if the k5 really can go to 25600 then - honestly how much more iso do you really need?

Why pentax need to design their own snesor? It they work like Nikon D700 sensor, P design S make, Pentax won't even get their R&D money back. The only way is buy Sony production CMOS, if Sony would sell them to pentax at a lower price. I don't think Sony and Pentax have good relationship between them, at lease not as good as Sony and Nikon. I think Nikon will have their D800/D700s with the 2460MP Sony exmor cmos with HD video.

IMO pentax do not have FF because lack of FF sensor supply, not tecnical or marketing obstacle.

I think Nikon upgraded their D3 first to 24.6MP Sony CMOS is because Sony worried that a D700s or D800 will destory A900 share in the market, and same reason for Pentax FF.

So, dear Sony, if you gonna quit from DSLR world and play EVIL, sell the 2460MP sensor to Pentax, don't worry Pentax FF is a killer to your A900, it's already dead.

BTW, I need FF because I want both DOF and ISO, and M42 compatibility, so it has to be Pentax. I can wait for another year, but not forever
It is an exclusive design. Thats why you can see the difference between them Sony and Nikon and Pentax. If you are a manufacturer of Sensor you sell your company by being a subcontractor. Legal stuff will prevent Sony from copying it nor using it in their systems. I f you want to build something but dont have that amount of money to produce in number is you subcontract a company that can do it for you. same in any manufacturing company. Take for example an Aircraft Company like Airbus all of the parts are there design only 75 percent they can make there own the rest subcontracted (engine, landing gear, etc) Its called build to specification by owner/ design.

Keep hearing about this surprise. What can it be? An 18,2mp cheap 645 camera?

Small feature which could be offered by marketing department of Pentax as the most important thing to make photo.

As long as the 25600 iso performs well i dont think full frame is really that necessary.. If you want shallow DOF then get a fast lens.. IMHO full frame is just a bit overated. The D700 is only more than a stop better than the Kx in ISO.

- announcement on September 20

I'm sure this is just the tip of what the specs will be, I have a hunch it will be very feature packed.

Since the incredible success of the Kx, Pentax knows that great high ISO performance sells, and I bet the performance in the K-5 is second to none.

I'm waiting to here the WHOLE story of this camera, I would love to see a tilt/shift LCD and tethering, but that may be to much to ask for.

As for FF, for me, I don't need it, I have never printed anything over 17 X ? and the new sensors are very close to FF now. Technology will keep moving where IMHO it will be a moot point.

With the economy the way it is, look what is making money 4/3rds and APS-C sensors.

Just my musings on a Sunday morning :- )

Will these be materializing before, or after, the Samsung GX-30 that you claimed was imminent in mid-2009?

How about the full-frame camera, 8-9fps APS-C camera, and micro-APS system cameras that you also claimed would be shipping in 2010?

Or are you simply posting wish lists, or trying to start a rumor with no foundation in fact?

K-7 is very reasonable buying now... I think K-5 will be a failure of Pentax. Too expensive for extra 2 MP and new video modes...

Another brands will launch the same 16 MP cameras - Nikon, SONY. Canon will offer new 18 MP 60D...
No chances to attract old users with K200/20/10/K-x...IMO.
If k5 has better high ISO performance than k7, it is definitely worth to upgrade. I liked K7. but I think I need a camera that can give me at least okay performance on ISO 1600.

by the way, if the k5 is not ff and its price is higher than 1400, I dont think too many people will buy it. nikon d300s and canon 7d's price have dropped to about 1350 with all kind of promotion around. Pentax needs to do better job to compete with them.
