Certainly looks like the new Sony Exmor sensor used in the Sony A55 and A580. Does the K-5 have 1080p like the Sony models?
The leaked supposed specs state that the k-5 will shoot 1080p.

RE: the title: "K-5: 16MP, ISO25600 and 7 FPS worth the upgrade?"

If the K-5 has K-7 performance, functionality and usability with quality that matches or exceeds the K-x at High-ISO, Low-Light ... yes, I'm finally going to upgrade. I'll remain skeptical until I see it.

I will upgrade to the k-5 if the lowlight and AF have been significantly improved. Otherwise I might start saving for the Nikon D800 (and lenses). And no, I'm not selling my Pentax stuff.

Is there a big FF secret about K-5?

Is Pentax hiding a big secret about the K-5? that it is FF?

Probably not. There aren't very many announced 16MP FF sensors out there.

Additionally, "people in the know" who post on these forums have stated that APS-C is likely for the foreseeable future.

Falk appears to have an understanding of Hoya's thinking here.

He's convinced that they will not ship a FF in the immediate future, will not announce a specific FF camera at photokina, and are opposed to a "road map" announcement in that area.

I've not yet known appearance to vary from fact in his case. When he speculates, he'll say so.

In case I'm not interpreting his views properly, please see his thread re: FF at photokina.

I think this is unfortunate for Pentax owners but I don't count myself among those who will jump the ship without a FF to buy this year or next.

I'm quite happy without FF. APS-C gives me reach with smaller glass, and if I need to go really wide, there's now the Sigma 8-16 (fab lens).

The high ISO and DR advantages of today's D700 will be matched by sub $1K APS-C cameras in 2 years. After that, it's just the pros and the willy-measuring amateurs who will care.

K-5 sounds fab.

You may be right. Especially if new APS-C cameras also come with better viewfinders.

And for those who don't want compromises, why choose the 24x36 compromise? There will be larger-than FF available (since the 645D appears to become a success, it's reasonable to expect more models and also less expensive models in the years to come).

Funny how this argument always come back... I'd think you could crop a FF pic to the same amount than with an APS-C sensor and thus have both : easy wide angle AND tele reach when needed...

Apart from the D700, FF cameras have nearly similar pixel densities compared to APS-C, so you end up with plenty of pixels left...

And if you want the same DoF and Fov, then the lenses needed are nearly identical in size/weight, so the "smaller lenses on APS-C" point is moot... A FF 200/4 is maybe even smaller than it's APS-C equivalent of 135/2.8 (again, DoF-wise).

I doubt if we will ever see a K model with FF.
If Pentax comex with a FF camera I think they might have another name to avoid confusion. They will probably use another "legend" like the rumored MZ-S(D) (MZ-D??) of a few years ago or PZ-1D.

...and apart from the D700, most don't have dramatically better high ISO performance than, say, the K-x. Certainly the Sony A850/A900 sensor, cropped down to APS levels, will not give particularly special results.
