Wonder why observing.

ZK 35 \ 1.4 will be direct competitor to FA 31 Limited. I`m not even sure which one would came out as winner, leaving AF aside.

I have been told by Zeiss that they will decide in 2011 if the K version of the 35/1.4 will be produced.
They will "observe the market closely".
Why do all signs point to 2011 as being the "do or die year" for Pentax?

That's when we'll supposedly see the much rumored FF...

Well the next year has been often reffered to as "do or die" year for Pentax, as well as "FF" year sometimes.

I`m not sure when my personal Pentax Apocalypse will happen.

It is a great shame that Zeiss have ceased producing for Pentax. If I was a pie-in-the-sky optimist I would hope that this augurs a new series of Voigtlanders instead.

All it means is that Pentaxians need to buy enough ZK's between now and 2011 in order to convince Zeiss that it's be worthwhile.

That would be great, but unfortunately the news is less cheery. Apparently all KA-mount Voigtlanders have been discontinued, including the just released 90mm AL-II. Ouch!!! Here's the thread where this was posted:

Here is a direct link to the Cosina announcement:

Discontinued items

This is very sad.

On the positive side, those of us who own a bunch of Voigtlander APO-Lanthars should expect the prices to remain firm, should we ever be silly enough to sell them.

I heard that Zeiss and Voigtlander are discontinuing their lenses in K-mount.
it just got an official confirmation from Cosina...
So the Zeiss part is probably true as well.

Damn. This sucks. Good thing I just ordered the 58mm. The VL 20mm and 40mm never interested me much anyways but I was hoping for a new 125mm Macro. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on a ZK 85mm someday.

Good grief. Talk about your sucky news. I was hoping to afford one or two of these in a couple years.

VL do still have some PK-mount stock left I heard, but the 20mm is sold out. If someone is looking to buy this, they should do so now (unless they hange their minds and start production again).

I'm buying them all to sell at 3x the price in 5 years!

Mwahahaha!

That was a joke by the way... I'm very annoyed that they stopped production.

Of course, but it only shows that those Voigtlanders are real Limiteds.
Also the SLI series was limited.

So third party lens for PKA will be down to Sigma ,Tammy and Samyang. I have heard that Sigma is dropping the 105mm EX DG macro from the line up like they did the 180. There maybe some truth to that because BH lists it as discontinued. I wonder if this is the economy or if Hoya is behind it someway or a combination of both.

I get the feeling that the Pentax market just isn't big enough to make it financially viable for companies to support the K-mount. Cosina and Zeiss tried but it's now clear that it didn't/couldn't work.

Do you think there is not enough market for those lenses to spend on R&D
or maybe there is a chance for ZK.2 with electronic aperture?
Zeiss ZK lens line is already perfect, only I would like see macro lens with 1:1 magnification ratio unlike current 1:2 ratio.
