Press release:

PENTAX PREVIEWS A NEW PROFESSIONAL DIGITAL AUTOFOCUS SLR CAMERA
DENVER, Colorado (February 10, 2001) . . . PENTAX Corporation will preview a new digital autofocus SLR camera (which has not yet been named) at the PMA (Photo Marketing Association) Show held in Orlando, February 11-14, 2001. The addition of this advanced digital SLR camera complements one of the most extensive photographic lines of any manufacturer in the industry including 35mm, APS, medium format and digital for various levels of photographers.

Created along the same developmental concept lines as the new PENTAX MZ-S professional 35mm autofocus SLR camera, this high-end digital SLR will feature a 35mm-film-sized, six megapixel CCD image sensor as well as a DSP and other digital processing components. This package was jointly developed with Philips Electronics in order to realize high-grade image quality, top-level performance and compact dimensions simultaneously. Offering compatibility with the existing PENTAX KAF2 lens mount, it will also accept PENTAX 645-system and 67-system interchangeable lenses (when used with an adapter). This high-performance digital autofocus SLR camera will be ideal for advanced amateurs and professionals who demand top quality images and SLR maneuverability.

Is this just conjecture?

Putting a really *old* press release right at the top is a wee bit misleading, don't you think?

I guess you missed the thread title "..ten years after the 1st" FF Pentax DSLR at PMA 2001.

No, your thread title was the misleading part!
You should have put a question mark in the title; otherwise, you made it look like that Pentax has already made an official announcement. In the end, it is just yet another wishful-thinking-post.

And the part about a FF Pentax in 2011 is mentioned where in that initial post?

I don't mean to argue - but I fail to see any concrete evidence of a Pentax FF model being announced or released regardless of what was shown in public a decade ago.

Wake Up Hoya/Pentax!

Wake up Hoya/Pentax! Give us a FULLFRAME (24x36) K-Mount DSLR soon! Otherwise I'm switching to Nikon's new D800 (the D700 replacement) after it's released.

You should know this won't be happening soon enough for you. Enjoy your D800 - I'm sure it will be an excellent camera. If you can afford it and its lenses, then you don't need to worry too much about what's happening with Pentax...

I love how someone threatens to leave Pentax over a rumored camera model to go to Nikon for a rumored camera model.

When you say "us", who are you speaking for?
The entire Pentax community?
Maybe it's only me that isn't interested in buying FF at this moment...or in the foreseeable future.

I'm not in the market for FF yet either. I still feel I haven't exhausted the potential of my existing APS-C Pentax DSLR's. If I need FF atm I fall back on my 35mm film (RealRAW) bodies.

But I do try and only buy FF compatible lenses when I shop for lenses, just in case.

APS-C fine for me

Yeah, another vote for no FF (well, I don't mind if they make it... I'm just not really that interested.)

I mean this in the most general of terms (not aimed at posters above) but I sometimes wonder if the Full-Frame frenzy in the forums is just fueled by people who are always looking for and wanting to buy the next new thing. At 14MP (possibly 16MP coming up) I can't imagine most people need the larger sensor for making larger prints as user polls that I have seen suggest that people go smaller if they print at all. I realize that a larger sensor has the ability to provide higher resolution and different DOF (among a few other things.)

I still just wonder how many people could tell the difference between a properly exposed APS-C 16MP image printed at 8x10 and the same on a Full-Frame sensor.

But for those who need it for work or joy, I hope Pentax delivers for you in the near future!
