Rumor: One SLR, one prime plus two compacts on Sept. 9th

Just found this, don't know if it has already been posted:

QuoteQuote:
Pentax is expected to announce at least one new DSLR camera and at least one prime lens plus two compact cameras on September 9th, 2010. There could be an additional announcement during, or just before Photokina.
Pentax is expected to announce new K-5 and K-r models and potentially a new EVIL camera for Photokina this year.
From Photo Rumors
Source seems unknown, however.

Just spotted this myself.
I would guess its the K-r.
Other manufacturers have done their lower end products first.

It says at least one prime and at least one camera, so there could be more. Plus I wonder if the two compact cameras will be interesting at all (past history says no).

Yawn.

At least a camera and a prime lens. What else? Any alternative would be abject surrender.

Nothing to see here, next topic please .....

Yup - that's usually what happens. Just like with that EVIl/mirrorless concept that got reposted to k-rumors.com which was then posted back in these forums. It's a vicious cycle.

Not so crazy, since Pentax does have patents related to that.

If Pentax is able to make a EVIL that uses the same lens mount as their SLR, it will be real killer.. since the only thing stopping from moving to EVIL right now is that they all use new mounts and have not good enough adapters for existing lenses...

The killer feature would be a adapter for K-mount that is fully compatible. If it had a fixed K-mount the camera would be killed, not a killer.

The new sony SLT 33/55 is what you describe - a camera that takes the old lenses while not having the mirror. I do not think its small enough to compete with NEX/m43 in size (mainly depth) and EVILs are almost all about size. Sure it can be made smaller, but the depth is more or less fixed.

No, the SL33/55 from Sony has a mirror - but it is semi-transparent so some of the light is bounced off the mirror to the phase detect AF system and the rest is coming through the mirror to the sensor. This means that the mirror is always in place, it is not flipped up/down. Now, the sensor compensates for the light loss by amplifying the signal - this means that the sensor doesn't give as good high ISO as it would do with a more traditional design.

To be precise the loss is of about half a stop.

The viewfinder is also electronic and not optical.

I fully understand how it work although I wrote a little sloppy. The size (depth) would be the same if there were no mirror at all. This can not be worked around.

I would like to see a NEX-like design from Pentax. Small, with WR and released with 3 primes to start with. Think DA40 sized lenses on a NEX sized body. All rugged and WR. That would cause interest from a lot of buyers I think

The diagrams they showed had the pentaprism still in there. Plus, and EVF as the flagship? Its not crazy, its insane. Of course the rumor originated from this site. Pentax has patents related to a lot of things that never went beyond prototype. Besides, that EVF in the patent likely went into the X90.
