Andy, that URL doesn't seem to work unless one is a registered user of the site. Do you have another public pointer to the same information?

Thanks!

For anyone who's interested, the link is to a two-page spec sheet for the K-r.

Andy, do you know what the status of the documents available through this site is?
Are they in the public domain?
Some are quite intriguing and I wonder if one can use them freely or whether their use is restricted?

Sony A850 body (FF) € 1685.

Not an entirely fair price comparison given how long the A850 has been on the market, but still a buyer today has the choice.

I agree, I agree.

Only a relatively useful comparison for someone who needs to buy a camera on the 23 September and wonders what the top up price for going full-frame is... OK, still unfair.

I'm glad to hear that the K-5 will never be in the shops for that price.

N.B., bearing all unfairness it mind, it shows that the prices between a top-level Pentax APS-C and a full frame SONY (which is almost their previous flagship minus a bit of FPS and minus a bit of viewfinder coverage) do not differ like day and night anymore.

The problem with the SONY, as I see it are the follow-on costs. Their upper-level lenses are great but expensive and their proprietary (Minolta) hot-shoe makes access to standard flash equipment a bit harder than necessary.

When the A850 was introduced it came in just under $3000CAD where if now conveniently sits at $2400CAD

The K-5 will most likely come-in at or around $1650CAD and settle in the mid $1300 region shortly after the holidays.

Would you consider a $1000 dollar difference night and day?
Also... the A850 is a sloth in contrast to the K-5, even slower than an old K20D.

It can be purchased in Canada from CAD $2074 onwards.

I'm all for that but currently the currency converted price would be CAD $1852.

Yes, but that's not the current difference. (As unfair as the comparison may be.)

Both K20D and A850 have 3 FPS (the latter does it for FF, though). If you need more FPS you need to go the A900.

But I agree that there are selling points for the K-5. Just wanted to point out that the price gap between APS-C and FF seems to be vanishing. You can read that as "there will be a Pentax FF in 2012" if you like.

I disagree, the difference would be vanishing if newly introduced FF would be near newly introduced APS-C. Comparing to an 'old' FF really there's no point IMO.

It doesn't mean it won't be true in 2 weeks if there's a D800 or something. But for now, nothing new.

I agree, this is very tempting!
And it's not unfair at all.
At this time I have the option to get a FF camera for only 300 € more.
Hmm ... hmm ...

It better have a good spec to sell well at that price imo.
