Slow APS-C lens - is it what we want? it's ridiculously....Everyone can afford FA35/2 for USD250, but marketing killed this lens.

Pentaxian need fast WR prime of 28-30 and cheap 50 mm lens and non-expensive 85/2.
The competitors can offer cheap 35/1.8, 50/1.8, 85/1.8 (85/2)...What about Pentax?

Slow DA35/2.4, DA35/2.8, DA40/2.8, non-cheap DA*55/1.4....Hmmmmm.

Dead FA35/2 and FA50/1.4

Hmmm..If it's true, it's marketing idiocy of Hoya.

maybe 16.5-135? yes...such WR zoom could be very good
I'd have to agree on this one.
I'm a 'Pentax pusher' in the local forums and I just loose newbies when cheap primes are mentioned. Yes, we know Pentax has a great entry level Kx and better quality primes ... yahda.. yadah...
But when newbies hear that there are cheap PRIMES, faster than kit lenses (regardless of f-stop) and they can produce 'BOKEH' type shots (the often used terminology) :ugh: ; They immediately say bye bye to considering Pentax and make a beeline for Canikon.

maybe...there is tragic mistake in rumors.... Not 35 mm, but 30 mm focal length.

DA30/2.4 is good. Cheap DA30/2.4 and expensive 31/1.8 are good offer.

Let's wait and see

Hm... why can't they just reproduce the FA35/2 ? add WR? and sell it around 300? that is a great lens!

I think Hoya/Pentax wants to compete with the recently released Nikon and Sony cheap 35mm (50mm equivalent) primes around $200. I'd be really, really surprised if the new 30mm-35mm prime from Pentax is over $249.

What would be interesting would be a 24-120 F4 like Nikon has. I'll bet a 18-125 will be an average quality, slow, 3.5-5.6ish lens.
As long as it is WR and the price is right, I would buy it. The 18-55 is otherwise very good for my needs but more reach would be needed for travel purposes. The same for bad weather / dustyconditions when changing lenses all the time is not an option.

What I'd rather see is a WR & * quality flash unit.

That to me would just complete and fix the weak link in the Pentax chain.

THE FLASH! ThE DAMN FLASH!
Ever see what happens when you use a flash in the rain? :P

Because it will kill FA31 sales...

That and price - I'm going to guess that reusing some of the 35mm f/2 optics would be far more cost-effective than using a brand new design.

Also, I've heard reports that the new DA 30/35 is going to be fairly compact and light, something that an f/1.8 lens is unlikely to be.

Lol yes.

But more to the point, you want to be able to use the flash and not worry about it shattering because it's so unbelievably fragile.

Go play with a Canon 580 EXii, it's about the same price and specs as the 540fgz but blows it away in terms of build quality, it feels tough and solid by comparison.

F/2.4 is not that much slower than f/2. I would agree a f/2.4 would be a strange number to settle for on a 35 mm lens, but if they did it in order to make the lens:

a. Perform well wide open
b. Cheap
c. Very small.

It will still sell well.

I prefer DA30/2.4 than 35/2.4
