Indeed. My interest for a white DA35mm has increased dramatically.

Did anyone else notice that the new 35mm did not get a "DA L" designation?
Yep, I noticed, but also noticed that the product page at PentaxImaging.com uses the DA L designation:

It really looks like crap in those photos. So far, I'm pretty disappointed. I don't know whether to take this as foreshadowing where Pentax is headed or not.

Yup - and going off of the description on Pentax's website:

A perfect choice for digital SLR beginners to familiarize themselves with the basics of using interchangeable lenses.
Most people on these forums are not in the target market for this lens.

It's price, weight and features (read: aperture) are plenty for someone just starting out with dSLR cameras.

Hood is included in the price, so I think it is safe to assume there is a way to attach it

Edit:Wrong again Steve...hood is optional...clip on or screw on.../Edit

I thought that at first, but I'm not so sure that it is not a DA L.

It is 6 elements in 5 groups with SP. It is a slowed down FA 35/2 with the addition of SP and plasti-mount and minus the aperture ring.

IT is spec'd for these hoods: Plastic Square-edged Spring Type (PH-SA49) Rubber Round Shaped Threaded Type (RH-RC49)

For once I agree with ogl: boring. An entry-level no-bells-and-whistles DA L lens and a camera body without WR. Well, I wasn't expecting so much from the K-r, but certainly hope K-5 will be a bit more interesting.

I can't wait for someone to stick the new 35mm on a film camera and see what happens...

The big news for me is:
  • Return of the focus points in the viewfinder
  • Choice of Li or AA batteries

If you ever wanted proof that Pentax USA does not have a clue, just watch this video.

Here is a hint Pentax - hire actors to present your stuff. Having regular employees do your video makes it look like you are either cheap or broke, neither of which is an attractive proposition to your potential customers. At the very least, tell the guy to shave before you shoot the video.
