The battery / AA solution is awesome. Can it be retrofitted to the k-x?

Aside from point 1 & 2 which are known.

Is the rest just speculation or you hinting at something?

I haven't heard the 18-135 will be WR, and I haven't heard of the 18-260 or 400mm. If you're right, I'll have the 18-135 WR and my wife will inherit my 18-250. If there's a 400mm, I may have to get that too.

If the 400mm is a DA* I'd be very keen to learn of its SDM development...

Well, it says mid-level, but the camera does not seem to be weather resistant. Might be a little disappointing for some. I guess it should be considered entry-level (no top lcd, model number format, etc) though.
In positive side, I guess the dual battery solution is the best idea to make everybody happy (one of the reasons I never even thought about the K-x despite its excellent low light performance).

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised to see the K-x, K-r, K-7 and K-5 all co-exist for the next couple of months as production of the old models cease and the new models are introduced. If I recall correctly, this is very similar to the way the K-7 and K-x were first introduced in regards to the K20D and the K-m.

Eventually we'll see the K-r as the entry level option from Pentax and the K-5 as the high end.

I agree. All in all it seems what K-x should have been, plus some more feathers. This is a good sign regarding what the K-5 will be.
