DA 35mm F2.4 AL street price: est. $165

$220 looks kind of steep when one looks at Nikon's competitive offering, the AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX, which is currently $185 at B&H.

But, take a look at the average prices of Pentax lenses at B&H vs. the list prices (i.e. those at the Pentax web store). The average discount for all of the Limited series is about 25%, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to see the new DA 35mm F2.4 AL at $165.

If it's that cheap and exceeds the Nikkor in image quality (which it should), I think it's a winner.

But let's keep asking Pentax to make it WR.

How much will the DA 35/1.4 WR street price be? A car loan?

Also...

The DA 40mm Limited has a 32% discount from list; the equivalent here would be pennies under $150. That hits a kind of psychological "hey, it's cheap" target spot, I think.

I had the number $125 hit me when i read about the lense so $150 would not seem awful at all...as long as it has worhtwhile IQ and build quality. Having shot a great plastic mount Canon lense, the 55-250IS (4-stop no less), I am not in any way bothered by a plastic lense mount because the lense is going to be so danged light.

What would have been fun is to have it as a WR lense for say $175 or so street price that might draw in a few weekend warrior types who want a knock around lense for some of their adventures. Still near to 200-bones is not an insiginficant amount of cash thse days.

Under $200 is enough for me to ask for money for my birthday and Christmas.

Like I said in another post, I like the idea of this lens and the price point. My dad is a K20D user and uses 3 zooms currently. No primes. I think this will make a GREAT Christmas present for him and an affordable one at that. Great way to introduce him to Pentax primes without breaking the bank and pairing nicely with his other light weight DA lenses.

If its $150 and stupidly sharp @ F/2.4 i'll buy it, if nothing but to try it out. Its not the lens it should be, and not what Im looking for but I've had lenses I bought simply for their cheap price become favorites before (read F 135mm F/2.8, K 50mm F/1.2, M 50mm F/1.7, etc.).

I'd probably get one around $150. I'd miss quick-shift focus though.

Refreshing thread after all the moaning in the other thread.
I think 150-175 would be very reasonable...and this is without seeing any images from it.
Could be a steal.

The FA 35/2 AL never had the Quick Shift and had a pretty skinny manual focus ring. Same thing with the other FA series like the 50/1.4, 50/1.7 and FA 28/2.8. While it doesn't have Q.S., the focus ring on the DA L 35/2 may be an improvement in that regards.

If you have to ask, you probably can't afford it.

You can use it reversed! Especially if you can get one of the colored versions, it would make a cool looking reverse macro lens. Macro porn!

Lol, believe it or not I was thinking the same thing... i've been wanting magnification between what I get with the M 28mm and M 50mm

The lack of an aperture ring is a bit disheartening, but I've already convinced myself I wont need it

Now what color? The lens is a joke to me anyways, so its looks have to match that
