Pentax Oz (ie cr kennedy) has refused to confirm or deny the K-5 lol.

I spoke with them today they are not saying a peep,

on the flipside some weeks ago by email one of them confirmed the release date as October.

Ah to bad, it would have been gutsy of Pentax to do ISO50

that picture is not a k7...k7 the mode selector has 3 rows of raised bumps while the camera in that picture's mode selector has 4. Not definitive (if you photoshop k5 onto something you could photoshop a different mode selector).

k7 front shot:

alleged k-5 front shot:
I confirm what everyone else says, I tried to alligne this with every picture available on the net of the K-7. No luck. Nothing is the same angle same texture.

I am sure 95% this is real. Even the reflection is real.....in that its photoshoped in a typical marketing department way.
This is a picture I would imagine of a press pack sent to reviewers.
DPreview is likely to have one as well as Imaging-Resources.
We could see a good hands on preview on the 20th.
If they are not too busy with the NIKON D7000.

As for the AF, having two central points is normal.
somebody rumoring 18 points is not normal.
The release of data about the camera now coincides with the release of the press pack I think has gone out.
some forum members know, and nobody with real credibility have denied this.(ignoring cris and OGL for the moment as they are usually the leakies and not the entrusties)

EDIT, Chris just confirmed the 19 points. which strangely enough makes it less plausible to me now. lol.
my logic usually is . the stranger things seem, the more likely they are to be real.

I would imagine that Chris is referring to the sync speed staying at 1/180th when he talks about the source denying things.

Oh wow, good catch! I bet this really is a K-5. A row of bumps would be a strange thing to photoshop in (especially if it is the only thing).
I am wondering why the "K-5" isn't level with the top deck/body seam.

Its almost impossible if the base ISO is not low enough.
You can get the best of the sensor by exposing to the right just before clipping any channel (hard to do) and then pulling back.

The number does not refer to the AF points. remember that there is a version of the Safox VIII with only 5 points in the Ist DL/K2000
Ok, I see your point with the 5 point SAFOX version.

But: Historically, Pentax has has increased the name number for algorithm reasons only. I don't see why they would add a lot of points, and add AF modes and still be using the IX name. For once a major change is made (if true), no reason to call it an old name imo.

Hybrid VF utilizing translucent LCD to display focus points and framing grid.
Nikon-like?
Well the ancient led reflection with problems in alignment was really due for revision.
Now, HOPE the new revised focusing system allows a smaller focusing area.
For the rest, looks like I will get what I expected: a refined K-7 as the K20 has been after the K10.

So KatzEye will have one customer less. I ordered a focus screen with custom grid lines from them for several of my Pentax DSLRs. Guess I will no longer have to do that then? Hope the grid lines can be sufficiently customized...

Dual SD or SDHC card
Hmm... Would be great, but where would they find the room in the K-7 body?

Anyway, nice list of specs and fun speculating about it. Good thing Photokina is getting nearer!

• 18-point wide autofocus system (SAFOX IX+)
Thanks to the good thinking of a DPR poster.

18 points could be ordered as follows with 15 cross points and 4 linear ones.
Code:
........-........
....X.X.X.X.X....
.|..X.X.X.X.X..|.
....X.X.X.X.X....
........-........
This would actually be a nice extension to the current layout. Also more practical for better AF-C.

[EDIT]Of course 15+4 = 19 and not 18... Apologies for posting when not sufficiently awake yet...[/EDIT]

The 5 seems to have been inserted one or two pixels too high. Bad photoshopping

The drawing looks sensible to me, but you need to work on your math - 18 =/= 15+4

Good APS-C body on paper. None of my interest though, what a shame.

Oh boy... Too early for me on this Friday morning it seems...

So it must be 19 indeed... or completely fake...
