Not the least bit interested unless the AF equals that of my D700.

Then Tom, you can be sure this camera is not for you.
Comparing a high-end FF camera with the K-5 is pretty unfair, and a fruitless exercise. THe D700 AF would just blitz SAFOX IX. And why shouldn't it for that price...

But not one right in the center? That's weird.
What camera wouldn't have a centre point for focusing? Whatever the number of points, there WILL be one right in the centre (can't believe I'm even saying this)...

Focuspoint in the center or all the points symetrically spread. With an even number of points you can only pick one

Well my PZ-1P focuses that fast, so why not the K-5?

One man said me about 19 points. Several months ago.

You can have two in the center. A large and a spot one.

3 x 5, 2 on the side and 1 additional in the center.

As fast as the D700?
Is that including in low light situations?

I think the k-5 will be exactly what I need. I don't shoot pro gigs nor feel compelled to have my gear pretend for me that I do so I don't need the sexy specs but I do want HD video to expand the things I can dabble in. Faster AF would be great as my k20d isn't quite as accurate as I would like it to be.

Probably wait for the price to go down but I think this will make my trip to Hawaii pretty fun if I can get it prior to then! Now, if someone would make an underwater housing that didn't cost as much as 2 cameras then I think i'd really be sitting pretty.

A lot of those specs sound VERY fishy, but good - if it's all crap, I hope it won't spoil the real K-5 specs for us.

A few points, but most importantly: The hybrid VF sounds stupid. What Pentax really needs is to offer a split prism focus screen already!!! It is just nuts to offer legacy lens support and then put us all in a situation where we have to send a ton of money to a third party, mess with shims and spot metering corrections all for what should be a cheap accessory that Pentax could EASILY offer themselves and provide support for. It's really a bit maddening, to be honest.

The 8 FPS sounds too good to be true. I hope it's in there, and with reliable, fast AF in burst mode.

The ISO numbers sound weird. Why no native ISO 100? What about these sensors prevent them from offering native ISO 100 or ISO 50? What is an "expanded" ISO anyway, and would it affect the quality? If ISO 100 IQ is no better than ISO 200 then what's the point?

The 18-point AF sounds bunk. Makes no sense, and would not be called almost the same name as the system in the K-r when it has 3 more points and a different layout.

That's my take anyway....

I would not call that SAFOX iX+ but rather SAFOX X+.

And price is a bit too high for that spec imo.

Well it's definitely more expensive than the K-7 when I got it in July last year.

I paid $1999 for the unit inc Sigma 17-70.

But still if its feature set and AF systems are that good it would be worth it.

No Surprise. Even Here it is around 1500+ Eur.

That's why my own prediction is SAFOX IX+ with 11 AF points yet more reliable yet faster algorithms as well as 7fps (as per Sony A580) and a very decent high ISO improvement - comparable to the K-r.
