18/19 AF points. Well, if you add up an uneven number of rows with any number of points each where just the center row must have an uneven number of points, then the sum is uneven. Always.

So, the only way to have a center point and an even number (if 19 results from 18 with counting the center twice) is something else than a matrix. Even a sparse matrix where positions are left out (but in a symmetrical way) is impossible. But, why should it be a matrix? The simplest way to get 18 points is 1 point in the center and 7 points in a full circle around and then 5 points in two half circles each to fill the sides. Unlikely but not impossible. It's more likely 19 and the center not counted twice. OTOH, 19=5+9+5 which is strange again.

ISO50. Any ISO below base ISO is implemented by a smaller gain but it doesn't prevent the well to flow over. Normally, the full well capacity is sufficient for something like ISO150 and so ISO200 becomes the base ISO with ISO100 as an extended option which has more risk for blown out highlights. ISO50 then is nothing but overexposure. It can easily be activated in firmware but doesn't make sense. Nevertheless, we don't know what marketing decides these days...

Hybrid VF. That one seems unlikely. It cannot be from a Pentax press text. Except if things are still kept secret until the very last moment. Because the effort of a translucent LCD (which for frame lines would have to cover the full frame making it an expensive option) is a waste for displaying grid lines. You rather would expect live histogram (from the 77 fields) or other stuff. Except if the translucent LCD isn't matrix type but one with predefined display symbols like in a LCD wall clock or weather station. Which makes it a less desirable thing though.

I don't really understand expanded and base ISO entirely. Can you please explain for me.

I'm confused how a camera that say has a base ISO of 100 could then be expanded as low as 50 and possibly perform worse.

It's for the tripod junkies - you know, the corroded old geezers who consider ISO 64 "fast.

Or perhaps if you're sitting on the surface of the sun and want to preserve your narrow depth of field.

or people who want to use fill flash in daylight,Remember pentax are still sticking with the 1/180th shutter synch speed.

And new flash system and syncing at 1/250 would be great also. But if you can sync with new flash at 1/250 why wouldn't I be able to sync with other flashes at the same speed or with Cybersyncs using my Alien Bees which I can't do now?
Based upon how the shutter curtains work there shouldn't be any way for a flash to get a higher sync speed. The shutter is only full open at a certain speed. Anything else is just HSS and therefore a loss of power.

If that picture is right, Pentax will be bundling the 18-55 WR lens with a very high end camera. A bit disappointing really.

The price tag puts it firmly against D300s/7D (at least when they were selling at list price) instead of D90(D7000?)/60D: the AF system has better be a completely new one with similar performances to what C&N already offer.

Sounds interesting but I still have my doubts about Pentax know-how on AF predicitve tracking algorithms.

Of course, the nice thing about a wide autofocus system is, IMHO, that it can be used as-is in a FF body. If it was the same arrangement and size as in the K-7 then a FF model would have the problem that the AF points would be concentrated too much in the center. So we have a wide AF in the K-5 and a normal AF point arrangement in the upcoming FF model?
Don't get your hopes to high on this and remember: Pentax used the same APS-C AF layout and size on 645D which is quite a lot larger than FF... :ugh:

There could be alternate packages. For example, the K-r is being offered with the 35 f/2.4, 18-55 or body only. If the 18-125 lens is for real I would expect this to be one of the more expensive bundles.

Fair point, but what are the D300s (16-85) and 7D (15-85) bundled with by default? - this is firmly in that price bracket. I would expect the lens to be the 17-70mm, but I guess that isn't weather sealed.

If the 18-125 is real and weathersealed - you have a very good kit!

That would be THE feature.

I reckon the AF is actually a user selectable function where the user simply touches the back LCD with the LCD corresponding to where in the frame they want the focus point.... up to 18 times to choose their own exact points for the focus software to use.... they can then move those points around manually between each shot, and be able to either delete or add points as they like...

Is that last one wireless flash sync with IrSimple?
IrSimple is an image transfert protocol to any system, like printers, computers with IrDA IrSimple devices. It has 16 or 4 Mb/sec transfert rates.

You'd think the K-r would be offered that way, but the US kits appear to be:

• $799.95 (body only)
• $849.95 (with 18-55mm DAL)
• $899.95(with 18-55mm DAL + 50-200mm DAL)
• $999.95 (with 18-55mm DAL + 55-300mm)

Maybe in Japan?

Or it could be for people who don't need a crutch to take pictures like auto focus, aperture/shutter prioity automatic modes, and ISO 6400.

I know it must be amazing for teenagers to realize that you can take pictures wihout the camera doing all the work for you.
