If I had to guess, I'd say that the dual card slots will also turn out to be false. I would be more than happy to be wrong about this as I think it would be a really cool feature, but I just don't see how they'll fit this into such a small body. Would you be willing to give up the small dimensions to gain dual cards? Some probably would but I would guess that most wouldn't.

I stopped in at the Pentax site the other night looking for updated equipment when I saw the K-5. I though they said it was being released in October because they are taking pre-orders for then.

What I would like to see from them is more glass. The highest I found at their site was 300mm/f4 and I wouldn’t mind seeing a 600mm/f2.4 or something in that range from Pentax.
Is that a typo or what ? B&H had a used Canon 1200mm F5.6 for $120,000 and a 600mm F2.4 is even larger so it would cost even more.

2,4 600mm needs approx 2,5times of glass like the 4,0 600mm

I hope to god pentax release manual mode or at least something for the k-7. There are work arounds like holding the exposure lock on av or tv then switching to movie mode but its not really perfect.

I'm sure the new camera will be good but as I bought a K-7 last summer I'm fine with it as I don't to much care for higher fps maybe better autofocus is better but I normally use centered anyway. If it was full frame I'd be alot more interested. In anycase it looks like pentax are heading that way maybe a 2012 release. Tad late by then I may have switched to canon we'll see and also the red cameras will be out too. I wonder how much they will change the game.

It would have to be mounted on a tank chassis to use it in the field.

The K-7 can use AA batteries, too!

I only wish K-5 have interchangable battery with dedicated Litium-ion battery or AA battery, just like the K-r. Is so, I will get this to replace my k200. The only two downsides of K-r for me is weather seal + top lcd.

I think we will never get a k200 replacement from Pentax..

The K-7 can use either Lithium-Ion batteries or AA batteries, too -- if you buy the battery grip.

I am not bashing Pentax but they always seem to fall short of the competitors. I support Pentax because I....well have owned a SLR/DSLR since 1975ish. I had too much invested in Pentax to jump to C* or N* but looking back I should have bitten the bullet and goe with C* or N*. The 7D is far superior than the k7 and from the sound of it will still outweight the k5. I will be curious to see the interval shooting is limited to 99 shots like the k7 is . Not having 60 FPS in video is also something the 7D has. Great for slow motion and it appears the k5 will not have this either. Pentax is a day behind with every release. THey make their models better than their previous cmaeras but it always falls short of the C*/N* models.

The 7D is also nearly twice the price of the K-7 (here in the UK anyway). Dunno about your part of the world?

yes twice as much here also but the features are offered on the 7D. Pentax has nothing to match the 7D. If they did match feature for feature and asked the same price I would buy it. But Pentax is always a few features short and 400.00-ish dollars cheaper. I would fork over the extra money if they offered the same featured camera.

although the price will be pretty equal 7D and the k5. I am hopeful that the k5 will make a huge leap in low light shooting. it wont match the 60 FPS, interval shooting, High ISO I am sure will not match the 7D etc etc etc...

indications are that the k-5 will stomp all over the 7d for high iso

What I don't get is why people are saying the shutter synch speed will be 1/180th with the older flashes and 1/250th for the newer flashes they are coming out with. With My knowledge of shutter mechanics it sounds more than a bit absurd. The synch speed will be 1/250th with all flashes if they are syncing mechanically.

Hello Mark. Nice to hear from you. I think you have a lot work and you decided not to be under NDA. I think our friend Bong is (Pentax Cebu).
Hi Kenn,

Yup, lately I have been extremely busy working for Lonely Planet (the travel guide). I have relocated to Southeast Asia, primarily the Philippine Islands to cover the Surfing Lifestyle that is booming in this part of the world.

I am happily using my Pentax gear and it suits me fine. The upcoming K5 is a refreshing burst of happily anticipated speed that I gladly welcome, for the work I do.

Glad to see the the forums are alive and well and Pentax is forging ahead, as it should

Cheers!
