stormcloud,
Thatis great news. I hope that is true I really do but OUr camp is always a few ISO qualities behind the competitor Again, I would pay for as good a camera as the D3 or the 5D and pay the price, but pentax does not offer one that is tha nice.

Why would the K5 be 130 grams heavier than the K7. Is it because of a new SR system? or maybe they have adapted the magnetic drive motor to be used in the body of the camera. I know there have been patents mentioned on both of these things. does anyone have some insight into this?

What I don't get is why people are saying the shutter synch speed will be 1/180th with the older flashes and 1/250th for the newer flashes they are coming out with. With My knowledge of shutter mechanics it sounds more than a bit absurd. The synch speed will be 1/250th with all flashes if they are syncing mechanically.
Now that the rumor about 18 points has been dismissed, i would guess that the 1/250 x-sync is not true either and we will probably get the usual 1/180 ...

The K-7 can use either Lithium-Ion batteries or AA batteries, too -- if you buy the battery grip.
But I want it would be like the K-r design. So u don't have to buy a grip to use AA!
Its not a rocket science design to put on - and already done in k-r!

Or the rumour will be accurate for once 1/250th as the case may be, we all know it is physically possible. But I'm certainly not going to throw a hissy fit like others inevitably will if they stick to 1/180th.But there will be others who will say even if they give us 1/250th that it isn't fast enough..."the only people who find exactly what they are looking for in this life are the fault finders" -Fosters law.

IMPORTANT

THERE WILL BE NO DUAL SD CARD SLOT!

everything else seems to be right, the only other question mark if the AF points.

That is all.

If that's the case, I probably won't be getting the K-5. I was looking forward to saving Raw on one card and jpegs on another and sending those pics to my laptop wirelessly with an Eye-Fi card.

The $1,699 is WAYyyy too high compared to the competition.

Video:
  • Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) 30fps or 25fps
  • 720p (1280x720) 30fps or 25fps
  • VGA (640x480) 30fps or 25fps
  • Custom video modes: Av, Sv, Tv, M (a long-awaited feature)
  • External microphone jack
  • Expanded video processing
I wonder if the lens focusing background clatter and noise when taking video with the K-7 and K-x has now been solved?

I remember when the Canon 7D was announced at 1899.00, the Canonites were outraged. Now it settled at/or around 1500USD. And it seems to be doing alright.

With that in mind, I think the K-5 will be alright insofar as pricing goes.

Quite a few people have explained how this can be plausible. Search the thread.

That's still ambiguous. Is it:
(Wireless-sync with PENTAX dedicated flash) and (IrSimple)
Or

Wireless-sync with (PENTAX dedicated flash and IrSimple)
The fact that it's all under the Flash topic and the fact that that no other line in the description combines two unrelated features both suggest the second interpretation.

On the other hand, the fact that it would be a whole new very revolutionary change suggests the former. (Plus, if they did this, they probably would have announced it with the K-r.)
I was merely empathizing the word "and" to show the way Pentax worded it.

Sorry, I just don't buy the rumor with flash sync > 1/180s for newer flash units only. It makes absolutely no sense as it would be useless for any semipro or pro photographers using pocketwizards or studio lighting with pc sync cords.

Either the camera allows for flash trigging over 1/180s or it don't. It's just a matter of shutter timings. To make > 1/180s only available in a P-TTL secret/proprietary mode would be a sure way to tell all customers in this segment to stay away from Pentax in all foreseeable future.
1/250 for newer flashes, NOT 1/180
