Pentax presentation (Japanese)

This is in Japanese, but it seems to be an announcement not just of products but of their positioning and growth. They make several references to a young target market.

ペンタックス、「K-r」の新製品舶\会 - デジカメWatch

Some sales figures (vertical column is thousands)溶ote the prominence of "mirrorless" (ミラーレス); yellow is "beginner", into which the mirrorless figures have been lumped (!). I see "国内" meaning national/internal. The quoted source expects sales in Japan to reach 1.3M cameras this year.

ペンタックス、「K-r」の新製品舶\会 - デジカメWatch

Here's an interesting one that shows the trilogy of current products.

ペンタックス、「K-r」の新製品舶\会 - デジカメWatch

Survey results showing the prominence of design and body colour in buyer preference.

P.S. I tried to do a search for these links. If this is a duplicate, please abolish.

Moving this to news and rumors, since that's more fitting, I think.

Indeed! I've lived in Japan for years and that feeling's never gone away.

But the overall thrust of the article is this:
+ pentax is focusing on young (20's& 30's) buyers
+ they've adopted the camera's design as a major selling item
+ the 645D is their "high-end" option

OK, I've gotta say, I must be weird too -- because I want a tiny hotshoe-mount mini-K-x to mount in my K-7's shoe when I'm not using an external flash. It's just so daft, it's brilliant!

Maybe this is Pentax's answer to Canon and Nikon's lens coffee mugs -- shoe mount camera keyfobs...!

Incidentally, for weird, I think these take the cake:

The Easter Island camera --

Merry Christmas from Pentax --

Brings a new meaning to Handycam --

Not a pocket-friendly design --

It's great, isn't it.

It's just a toy though.
Available from mid October in 20 colours.
200 yen from a coin bubblegum type machine, so you can't choose the colour.

They could at least make it project AF assist beam, for it to gain some sense.
