Pentax news - nobody cares but us?

So you would expect some interest from other groups, a couple of really
interesting cameras, good specs, solid offer.
Not a single thread about Pentax news can be found on dpreview Canon
or Nikon forum, nor other Canon forums I'm following.
Then comes the news no more Zeiss or Voigtlander lenses will be offered for Pentax.
What do Pentax have to do to attract some attention?
Without any new buyers it's gonna be hard to become sexy again...
Shouldn't they launch some big advertising right away? I have yet to see
another Pentax camera out there... I know they are a bit more popular in Europe,
but here - nothing, nada.
I'm sure I will pick up the new K-5, but I'm hesitant to spend much more
on the remaining Zeiss glass for example...

The K-r is not a system switching camera.
Wait for the high ISO examples from RAW to come in. Then they will talk.
Also the one that they will talk about is the K-5.

Nobody is talking about the Olympus E-5 on here are they???? Because we know too little about it.

The D7000 is talked about a little. as is the 60D..... but we talk less about the 550D and D3100.

The red pill - welcome to the real world where 90% don't know that Pentax exists, of the remaining 10% only 5 percentage point care, and of those 5 percentage point only 1 percentage point buy a Pentax camera.

That was a forgone conclusion for me when the canceled it right before I had to replace my Viv Series 1. That conclusion has been reinforced over time. There's is even rumors that Sigma is dropping the 105 EX DG macro at least in k-mount and BH shows it as discontinued. That' what I replaced my Viv with. I also have the old Tammy 90mm 52B and a 52BB.

Edit: This week, BH is showing the Sigma 105mm EX DG as "In Stock."

I'll be a "new" user soon... Although I haven't owned Pentax since the 80s (MV, K1000), I'm really excited about returning to the brand.

but you're right about the lack of interest - I can't find any Pentax cameras in stores in order to demo them. Rumor has it that there's a store in Omaha that had a new K-7 available (not making this up - I called) but unless I travel to the east coast, I'm likely not to find Pentax on the shelf.

Pentax has to do a better job of getting their products back into stores. It's hard to increase your demand when no one knows your products exist.

That's what I hate! It makes Pentax seem even less serious. I do not care if nobody knows my camera, but if the others think "Pentax? ah those who make toy cameras" I'm not sure I like it. Not that I want to be poser or seem pro, but I do not like to seem stupid either! Well, not that it really matters much, but still I prefer Pentax to be less known than this.

p.s. By stupid I mean who has chosen their system only based on color for example...

it doesn't bother me. by choosing Pentax i choose to be a little different. attention from the Canikon crowd doesn't mean much to me, especially considering most of them will just bash any other brand. i'll just let the pictures from my "toy" continue to do the talking.

Same here in Salt Lake City. In the last year or so they've been cleared out of all of the camera stores. It sucks, but hopefully I'll move somewhere soon where I can actually pick up the camera/lens prior to purchasing it. An even nicer thing would be a store that offers the Pentax products at reasonable prices. When I was looking at a DA 60-250 it was something like $400 above what they had on Amazon...

We don't care, that's true. But i believe Hoya do care.
People would say: "hey, pentax don't even have a FF, i am not gonna buy a pentax" here. A FF might not bring much direct money to Hoya but defenitely will draw attentions from potential buyers.

It's possible; they're either "in shock" (for whatever reason), or they watching carefully how well things will go and see how their market share will decrease however slightly and then respond (maybe)

Why not just wait until these products hit the market place before we expect a reputation from them? At the moment, all there is are leaked product photos and spec sheets. At least wait until the "unpacking" videos make it to YouTube...
