It's called a K10D ;-)

I got the K200d a 4 months before the K20d. However the K20d and K10d are bigger than the K200d.

I wanted a K20D when I went out to buy, that was my intention. I hadn't had it in my hands at that stage and went to the local camera store to have a look. They tried to sell me Canon and Nikon first (so, they gave me a 450D and a 100D, as well as a D60 and D80 to look at)... then they gave me the K20D and the weight of it, being completely unexpected, wrenched both my wrists to the point that I need to wear braces off and on even now, some two years later.

I didn't buy that day, it took another 3 months before I could bear to shoot with anything, let alone a dSLR, but when I saw that a local discounter had the K200D dead cheap, I just went and bought it. Best decision I ever made. I would not have been able to manage with the k20, and the Canikon models would not have satisfied.

So...bigger *and* way heavier as well. (long story to get to that one relevant sentence. I ramble, sometimes)

True. I myself used a K200D for a few month, it was a nice camera. It's really a pity that Pentax doesn't want to make something similar. But pentaprism add weight if I'm not mistaken.

I also would want a replacement for the K200D. I'm looking at the stats for the K5 and like the specs, but do not forsee buying one for many months after its' release, because of the price involved.

I purchased my K200D from a forums member over a year ago and loved using it, it's what I have shot with most of the time. A few months ago, I purchased a K20D from another forums member (after the K7 released, so a big price discount on the K20D) and really like it, but as others have stated, it is a bit bigger than the K200D and find myself not using it as much as the K200D, eventhough it shoots better and faster. (to me, anyway).

I don't need WR but I'd like a K-r with a pentaprism. That said, it seems pretty clear that Pentax has taken a different route. In fact, if the K5 doesn't sell much better than the K7, I'd expect their next mid-level camera to look a lot more like the K-r than the K5. They can't go on pretending to compete with S/N/C while operating at a tiny fraction of the market size. If they've chosen a niche, it's the young Japanese fashion accessory buyer.

The 645D will be their foray into "serious photography".
It would realy be nice if pentax would say this, Then we would know where they are going!!!!!

K200D is a pentamirror.

K20D is pentaprism.

There are 5 things that make a body upper tier:

1) WR
2) External grip
3) More direct/physical controls
4) Penatprism
5) Top LCD

These you will have to pay top price for from all brands now. You can get a K-7 for about the same as a K-r, or can spend more on the K-5. Or, a used K20D. Your choice.

The problem with the K-7 is it's relatively poor high-iso performance. Argueably worse even than the K20d. I'd love a K-r with it's great high-iso but also with WR.

Oh well, I guess I'll wait until next year until the price of the K-5 comes down. Or maybe pentax will soon come out with a model between the K-r and K-5.

You realize that the K200d has all of those but the Pentaprism don't you?

He didn't write dual dials now did he? If you go back earlier in this thread, you will see that I mentioned that the only 2 things that would have improved this body would have been dual wheels and a pentaprism.

BTW, while single dial is intentional crippling, pentaprism certainly add cost and weight. In which proportion I don't know (at one point the K10D was sold new under 650$).

I too was holding my breath for K200D replacement with pentaprism and new sensor. If K-5 has AA support than it's an option. Otherwise I'm staying with my bulky K20D and it's unpredictable proprietary batteries.
