K-5 rumors false!

An anonymous source today informed me that the K-5 will in fact be using an 11-point AF system. Yes, it will be SAFOX IX+, and will use a completely new algorithm, but no, it won't have 18 AF points.

Edit-
Additionally:
-The AF system should nevertheless be extremely accurate in low-light situations
-7 or 8 FPS: nobody knows for sure
-The ISO range will be 80-25600
-Same body casing as the K-7, and compatible with the same grip

Correction: ALL rumors are false until the 21th of September. Only from that date there will be facts

Someday I will understand how the number of AF points affects me who always uses center point focus.

ok i'm disapointed - autofocus really is an area where pentax needs improvement - their flagship should have autofocus comparible with other cameras in the price bracket - but we have entry level autofocus =(

Agree.
In 99% of all cases I use the center point.
I am not interested in 18+ AF points. This would only confuse me.

Will there be an f2.8 AF point in the center?
That's the important question.

So Pentax are watching and felt that they had to stop the expectations from growing to high. Understandable.

No big deal for me. I'm more concerned about dark frame subtraction, not being able to turn it off is ridiculous.

The fact that they are rumors doesn't in and of itself make them false, it just makes them rumors until the 21st. But I get your point; everyone is spending an awful lot of time speculating on the rumors when there is no way to know for certain what the facts are for another week and a half

Perhaps you should try a camera body with 51-ish number of points... Use it for different types if shooting, like models, fast-paced sports, wedding, macro, product.... then go back to 11 points... then we'll talk...

Seriously though, when i picked up a D90 after using the D300s for a good while i was quite a bit disappointed to say the least... My-self I'm on the center point 99% of the time.... it's that 1% that makes the difference...

We really should have guessed this. Why would Pentax put a more advanced AF system in a $1600 body than a $12,000 body that has only recently been introduced? But, I too couldn't really care less how many points there are, only how well those points work. The ISO range sounds enticing, but will the 80 require some sort of extended mode that will somehow lessen its usability? Have to wait and see, I suppose. I still totally want one.

Has anybody implied it would affect you? You may as well say a lack of anything above ISO 800 doesn't affect you if you never use anything higher, or that 1fps wouldn't affect you because blah blah... but can you not understand how potentially improved AF performance can affect and excite quite a number of people who are NOT tied to center point single shot shooting?

Adam, I have to say I'm disappointed. With all the rumors coming and going in the forum, you've several times linked to the specs on the front page suggesting they're the real deal. And considering you're the admin here, I believed you have some real connections and inside information. And now this. Are you saying that you just pick random rumors like the rest of us and present them as the forum gospel?
