They have got to be insane to try to shift the K5 at this price point.

This is more than a 7D with a decent kit lens. It needs to be 20% cheaper than a 7D at least, and preferably not twice the price of the top Sony which uses the same sensor.

This could well be the last 'semi-pro' camera Pentax ever make. Shame.

Now the, question is, Sony, Canon or Nikon . . .

I'm amazed how drastic conclusions some of you guys draw - based only (I assume) on vague and partly inconsistent rumors.

Thing to also watch out for.

Nikon prices hold.
The K-7 is now so much cheaper.
People forget that these cameras will drop in price.
the Nikon will not, the Pentax will. in half a year the price issue will be a non-issue!!!
How much was the D90 announced for? how much was it last year? How much is it now?
The release price for body only was 999, now its 899.

These do include 22% VAT, which can just be subtracted from the price for US buyers.
Isn't it 19% VAT?
And don't you pay any VAT in the US at all?

1399 euro = $1800
1800*0.78 = ~$1400 = K-5 body price
Assuming 22% that would have to be $1800/1.22 = 1800 * 0.82 = $1475. Assuming 19% it's $1513.

But the US price can probably not obtained that easily anyhow and no one knows what the street price in Germany will be.

Sony Alpha 580+kit lens £730. The top of the range Sony using (allegedly) the same sensor. Naked K5, if these prices are right, 80% more. Result it's a dead duck.

If, on the other hand the K5 turns out to be FF, I'll be first in the queue. Will just have to wait until next week to find out.

BTW, Nikon D90 in Carrefour last Christmas with the longer kit lens €699 (not that I'd buy one, not enough resolution).

There is no VAT in the United States. If you buy an item in a store, there will be sales tax on the item -- usually somewhere around 6 or 7 percent. If you buy an item over the internet and the store does not have a presence in your state than you pay no tax at all.

All that "no tax" goes to build the infrastructure.

But yes, I think Adam's initial approximation was correct. In easy terms, one just changes the euro to a dollar sign and that is the pricing equivalence.

I think my last post bringing-up policy and taxes was delete (can't find it anymore) so lemme censor myself here.
edit: LOL! oops, not deleted. That was on another form (notbookreview).

Anyway then, a redux. What I said before was I thought that internet purchases are supposed to be put on our state income tax return, with taxes then paid locally. And some other wizeass stuff about how VAT in any coutries that have it is ridiculously out of hand, and how every tea-partiers complaining in this country needs to spend a few months in one of those countries making a living and living to shut-m up and remind/show them how good they have it here. ...something like that.

Paying sales tax in New York isn't going to help Florida infrastructure anyway.

BTW, isn't "Florida Hill Country" an oximoron? I mean, where is that? An Overpass?

(I hope you realize I jest. But on the other hand, really? There are actually hills in FLA? )

Heh. Reminds me of my days in Houston. Dallas is pretty flat, but Houston is on the coastal plains and it's REALLY flat. There's an overpass over one of the main highways, right near what used to be called the Summit, where the Rockets played their games until several years ago. Anyway, the street that goes over the highway there is Edloe St. The highway was wide and the overpass had a nice rise to it, so the members of the Houston Bicycle Club referred to it fondly as "Mount Edloe."

Wrong arithmetics

When you are calculating price without VAT, you must calculate it like this (if VAT is 22%):
1800/1,22=1475 (rounded).

Quite right! And also one should state which EU country prices one is talking about. EU VAT varies between 17%-25%, so If Adam was referring to Polish prices (only one currently having 22% VAT rate, afaik) 1475 would be right. But that same gross price 1800 in Germany for example would mean net price of 1512 in dollars (if currency rate was right here...).

So EU prices vary already because of the different VAT rates. Luckily the consumer can choose where to buy and what VAT rate to pay therefore.

We really have to wait for the real prices to be announced!

Its Tallahassee. And yes there are hills. In downtown, there are a series of 7 hills. That makes the Red Hills area unique. In geological history, its the remnants of the Appalachian Mtns.

I am cautious abut Wikepedia, but this article is an accurate description.

Red Hills Region - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edit: I put that in the location because most people aren't as familiar with Florida as they think.
