These might be accurate, surprisingly, or at least close. These do include 22% VAT, which can just be subtracted from the price for US buyers.

1399 euro = $1800
1800*0.78 = ~$1400 = K-5 body price

If it turns out being so, I'd say it's definitely a fair price!

It is about the same price as the cheapest brand new 7d or d300s you can get. Not too bad.

if price is correct, this would make it $600 more than the kr.
assuming the High ISO is great, what does $600 buy me?

1. pentaprism
2. dual control wheels
3. WR
4. more direct buttons
5. Grip capable
6. SAFOX IX+ (the plus)
7. ?manual video controls?
8. other ports like HDMI, wired remote
9. possibly quieter shutter mechanism and more actuations
10. 8 fps?
11. dual SD?
12. mag allow body
13. what else?

sorry.
just trying to see if if i can justify $600 more than the kr or possibly wait (ugh) till price drops a bit, maybe by christmas

For me personally, your list plays like this:

MUST HAVE FEATURES (at any price)

7. manual video controls
2. dual control wheels
1. pentaprism
5. Grip capable
8. other ports like HDMI, wired remote

NICE TO HAVE FEATURES

12. mag allow body
3. WR
4. more direct buttons
6. SAFOX IX+ (the plus)
9. possibly quieter shutter mechanism and more actuations
10. 8 fps?
11. dual SD?

Lots of stuff I need -- lots of stuff I want. $600 premium seems worth it to me.

More MP, it is useful when cropping!
ISO 80 if specs are to be believed.
reinforced glass rear screen,
top display.
TAv mode!!!!!!
No scene modes on dial.
possibly 1/250th sync.
1/8000th vs 1/6000th
1080p video vs 720p
stereo mic input.
More micro adjustments for lenses.
cold resistance to -10 C.
PC sync socket
Ability to buy cheap K-7 compatible batteries from the getgo.
Smuggness!

I think $1399 in the USA would be a fair starting price considering it's "just" a K-7 Super Duper and not FF.

While I'm sure the K-r is more solid than the K-x, the K-x build isn't close to the K-7. That alone is worth a few hundred. Expecially true for WR.

Welcome to the Pentax worldwide pricing strategy....

Yes, you are right about this.
From the same site (kosfeld24.de) you can see their K-7 price: € 979 = $ 1200
While a "normal" US price for a K-7 is around: $950 or less.
VAT (mehrwertsteuer) differs per country, in Germany is actually is 19% (or 7% for some items).

I guess if the K-5 body costs € 1400, the US retail prices will be around $ 1400 as well.

I’ll refill the list of possible additions comparing k-r and K-5

1. Pentaprism 100% viewfinder coverage + more magnification 0.92x or maybe 0.95x?
2. 2.dual control wheels +hyper program mode.
3. WR
4. More direct buttons
5. Grip capable
6. SAFOX IX+ (the plus)
7. ?manual video controls?
8. Ports like HDMI, wired remote
9. Possibly quieter shutter mechanism and more actuations
10. 8 fps?
11. Dual SD?
12. Mag allow body
13. More MP, it is useful when cropping! It’s 16mp
14. ISO 80 if specs are to be believed.
15. reinforced glass rear screen;
16. Top LCD display
17. TAv mode!!!!!!
18. No scene modes on dial.
19. possibly 1/250th sync.
20. 1/8000th vs 1/6000th
21. 1080p video vs 720p
22. Stereo mic input.
23. More micro adjustments for lenses.
24. Cold resistance to -10 C.
25. PC sync socket/Flash terminal socket? Is it the same?

Ability to buy cheap K-7 compatible batteries from the getgo.

Damn it the list is really not short.. and the price becomes more and more justified.

more over we'll get such small improvements over k-7 like better grip on mode dial, and better grip on focus mode switch.

not counting other improvements, like for example, maybe HDR more customizable, or at least ability to take it via 3 seconds timer.
and i believe there is more..

can anyone objectively translate them into value in $?
