if the D7000 is spec'd/priced as rumored

since they're spec'd so similarly, i wonder if the $200 difference would cause cut into K5 (and 60D for that matter) sales?

We'll see. I still think (maybe I'mtoo subjective) that Pentax top cameras do target (generaly speaking) somewhat higher end market.
Which doesn't mean the Pentax are better in all areas (AF being one of them)

different parts, different materials, different productioncosts, different calculation.....why should cost everything the same price, only because on the paper they are similar???

I don't think it will matter that much. Maybe mostly 60D sales, which is more similarly placed.
Those cameras have different highlights by which people choose them (e.g. weather sealing, speed).

And for canon. Currently it seems that their x0D series are more like x00D was, and xD has taken place of x0D series. This means Nikon and Pentax will be half or full step above its actual position.

that's the issue. the D7000 is rumored to be weather sealed, dual sd slots, 100% VF, AF in video, etc. etc. etc.

of course, it'll never have SR

i guess we'll know tomorrow - supposed announcement

I never understand why Nikon comes up with a model numbers in thousands... D7000, let alone it is confusing as someone might have connected that with D700, yet it is not a sequel of the D700 model. It is more like inflation to me by adding more zeros.

If you can't understand logic behind Nikon's numbering, try understanding the logic behind Pentax's numbering... K5 replacing K7.... Daaaaaaaa......

That being said, Nikon did screw up their numbering right from the beginning of digital... but they seem to be getting a hold of it finally....

So far D7000 looks really nice, uses the same grip that D90/D80 have... I really hope that Nikon recycled a lot of D300's parts in it... Because the original D90 is a great and solid body, just been lacking some D300's performance....

I am assuming (Nikon)

4-digits, entry DX
3-digits, advanced DX
2-digits, entry FX
1-digit, advanced FX

So after D700 comes (not D80 for sure), maybe D10?

More difficult to figure out Pentax, but maybe as simple as, letter=entry, digit=advanced. And they could still use L for professional :-)

So next flagship will be K3, next one K1 and then the mighty K - full frame 40Mpix, ISO 128000, 111 cross type f1.8 AF points spread across full frame...and the buzzer rings

Then expect expect a lot of people switching over to Canon... Because that would about the dumbest thing anybody would do in photography business Today... that is after Canon's dropping of FD-mount... D90 was Nikon's most sold camera body and most D90 users have a a lot of non AF-S lenses... Will Nikon be stupid enough to kill it's most milkable cow?

if they follow the Dxxxx numbering, possibly, but having that much other specs 39af, mag alloy, i find it unlikely (however possible) for it not to have an in-body focus motor.

now to see if they added AF fine tuning

if nikon did, then i must admit it is a very well spec'd camera at an interesting price.

we'll have to wait and see on performance.

and of course, still no SR

I'm waiting on the specs and price of the D7000 and K5. My interest in the D7000 is due to the desire for the Tokina 11-16mm lens and the broad range of available long lenses.

and isn't already tomorrow in Japan???
