If the D7000 is spec'd as rumored, and the K-5 is a few hundred more in price, then I'm probably going to switch to Nikon.

I suspect that would lead to many bailing out of Pentax. I priced out equivalent focal lengths and the D7000 and it would be only a few $ to make the switch (for me). Whatever suits my needs at the best price point will win my $s.

Because that would about the dumbest thing anybody would do in photography business Today... that is after Canon's dropping of FD-mount... D90 was Nikon's most sold camera body and most D90 users have a a lot of non AF-S lenses... Will Nikon be stupid enough to kill it's most milkable cow?
If Nikon dropped the in-body motor in this tier, it would signal a real 'screw you' to it's enthusiast base.

They would be thinking (translated from Japanese: ) "we can make up the sales lost from the jumpers by forcing everyone else to buy overpriced AF-S kit lenses! Bwa, ha, ha! We cast our souls into the dumpster of garbage and dance in a shower of Yen, our fists clutching money bills, jubilant!"

I agree.

I don't have much invested in Pentax lenses (my FA 50/1.4 is the most expensive), so I could easily make the switch without losing much, if any money.

Like somebody pointed out on Nikon-rumors, D7000 still has the AF/FM switch... so the screwdriver is definitely there!!!

What Nikon lenses are weathersealed? I assume the expensive Nikkor zooms are?

I'd choose your camera based on the lenses you want for it. If you like the Nikon D7000 you'll probably like the Pentax K-5 and vice versa. At least I imagine so, since they supposedly have the same sensor.

Duh... not again... which out of FA31/FA43/FA77/FA85/DA15/DA21/DA35 is weather-sealed? guess what!!! NONE!!!! And these are still the best lenses Pentax has...

Stop measurebating about WR and SR, go out, rent and model and shoot for a change...

It wasn't a Nikon critique, it was an honest question as I don't know much about Nikon and was curious what lenses could be used with a weather sealed body.

These are the best lenses????But not all.
The absolut best is the DA*300,one of or the best 4,0 300 in current market.
One of the best zooms is the 2,8 50-135.
these stil of compares are to global and not so simple like in forums wanted.
In real Saleslife it´s a lot more different.

Sorry... i'm getting a little too sarcastic because somebody always brings up the WR and SR....

Nikon is quite unclear about lens weather sealing... top of the line stuff is sealed for sure, but in con/prosumer range hell knows.... 70-300VR for instance has a seal on the lens mount, but it's not official if the internals are sealed... have shot mine in a rain with no issues but i'm very careful.... the lens it-self is a dust-sucker howerver... All new G-line glass seems sealed as well... 35/1.8 is sealed by design as there are no external parts moving in or out....

I looked into this a bit. 3 are the weather sealed AFS 85mm 1,4G, AFS 24-120mm ED VR and AFS DX55-300mm ED VR. They are the only weather sealed lengths i was interested in. I believe there are more.

I'm not sold on switching as I really like the quality and size of the K7. I am familiar with Nikons excellent AF and metering. That would be a big plus for my paid shoots and there is no disputing the resolution of the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens. If the Tokina and a broader range of long lenses were available for Pentax I wouldn't even be looking at Nikon or the K5. I would keep the K7 and buy lenses.

Interesting. So I assume the Nikkor DX 17-55 f/2.8 is probably sealed then, too. I have a friend who owns that lens in addition to the D90 and it would be a good thing to know if she upgrades.

Nikon Amateurlenses with seal on the mount are not weatherproof!
They are dustproof in that area, but not the complete tube.
The Prolenses are same weather and dirtproof like Pentax*lenses.

I wouldn't bet on AF micro-adjust...but the WR is likely true...remember, there are varying degrees of WR...without independent testing, there is nothing to say which WR is more effective (or equally effective) than any other...even the Canon 60D has some WR, but not as much as 7D/5D/1D...I'm leary of the dual SD rumor...sounds unecessary...oh, and the price is rumored to be $500 less than the K-5, not $200 less as someone mentioned in this article...biggest plus on the D7000 over the D90 = 100% VF, 1080/24P and video AF-F...
