What about video?
Anyone know what's floating around for that on the D7000?
If all the rumors hold true I will admit that this offer is veeerry tempting.
But I honestly don't know if I'd want to trade SR for ISO with some of my favorite glass though. Very hard to imagine that tbh.

Here is the first official announcement btw.

... added later....

Nikon | ???? | ???????????????????? D7000????

D7000 from Nikon

Minor differences(so far):

  • 6 FPS
  • No in body SR
  • Video quality?
  • No weather sealing?

This camera will definitely encroach on K-5 territory.

I think I'm pretty much sold on the D7000.

Now, to sell my *ist and my FA50/1.4....

Per the DP Review brief hands on, another difference would be that the D7000 only goes to 6400 ISO in standard vs the 12,800 in the K5 rumor.

supposedly the sensor will have "low-light ability never before seen in an DX-format (APS-C) camera."

i will admit, its tempting but given my history, I need the build quality of the k5 more than I need the autofocus of the d7000. It is very well speced and pretty tempting but they are basically similar cameras, d7000 being cheaper but not cheaper enough. I need to say this though. I chose the k20d over the d90 or spending more money for the d300 because I could get more camera, lenses and accessories for my money. At that time a FA 50mm f/1.4 was between $160 and $200; right now on amazon its $360. I love pentax and the quality of gear I receive but its becoming less attractive to stay a pentax customer. Beat the competition if you're going to price like the competition, not come close.

Why do I shoot pentax? Ergonomics, weather sealing, quality of lenses available, bang for my buck and probably a little because I like being in a niche rather than the mainstream. That said, those factors are becoming less important as the cost of pentax gear gets insane.

I wonder if Nikon pulled a rabbit out of their hat on the D7000...

I guess we will find out in a few weeks. If current K-5 specifications and price are what is rumored, they will have a tough time making converts and/or capturing new semi-pro users.

Crap. His blog post speculates the price being "about $1,000" for the D7000.

This could be trouble, or it could be a boon.

Assuming the K-5 specs are as rumored, I think we might see a price reduction sooner rather than later to compete with the D7000.

Cnet has the D7000 expected at $1199.95

Imaging Resource is reporting it as being weather sealed like the D300s.

Yet DPreview says: "The Pentax K7, which has slipped into the D7000's class by virtue of its current asking price, combines handling qualities of both the D7000 and the two Canons, and is arguably one of the most pleasant DSLRs of its type to hold and use. "

Implying that their $799 price was not a typo...

Edit: I take that back, looks like they removed the price from their site.

Looks like it's officially $1200.
