Originally posted by falconeye On the spec sheet, both cameras look indistinguishable!
In common:
Mag-Alloy body, WR, 100% Prism, 2 wheel operation, 150k shutter, 16MP, ISO100-25k, 6 or 7fps, etc.
Pro K-5:
SR, In-body HDR (if Nikon did not catch up), Size?, Grip?
Pro D7000:
$200 less, Tethering?, 39AF points, Video-AF (if Pentax did not catch up), Dual SD (if Pentax did not catch up)
Now, that the spec is out, both cameras look even closer. I'll add in:
K-5 size & weight:
131 x 97 x 73mm and 754g+ (with batt.)
D7000 size & weight:
132 x 105 x 77mm and 780g (8mm taller but same width)
The K-5 may be capable of 1080p@25 D7000 and a notch higher fps but other than that ...
Other features "copied" from the K-7 are:
True MLU, mode dial lock, mirror-less shooting ("quiet" mode), 9 cross-type AF sensors
, full support for legacy lenses, 921k 3" screen, 1/8000s shutter, HDMI out etc.
We'll see how both cameras actually "feel" and perform (buffers etc.). The D7000 has more sensors for AF and metering and we'll need benchmarks to translate this into practical data. And yes, the D7000 will support a grip and tethering.
But take it from a positive point of view:
Nikon did not succeed in beating Pentax which is a much smaller company, in developping the successor to their cash cow product. Their product isn't better, just on par and it does not have SR or the -10°C weather spec.
