It seems clear that Pentax rushed the camera to market and have been adding features to it until the last second.
===================================

Can you remember (K10D, K20D, K7) in the past four years where Pentax released a camera firmware update in THE FIRST WEEK of it being on the market?

I can't.

AFAIK, D7k users in Nikon forums consider the continuous AF in video a marketing gimmick which doesn't prove useful in real life.

The K-5 CAF could do better though if Pentax lowers their requirement for released features. But maybe, it isn't a bad thing they don't

THAT (continuous video AF) being a feature more advanced users don't regularly use DOES appear to be the consensus in both the Pentax and Nikon forums.

WHICH, adds value and potential flexibility for anyone already owning quality K-mount glass.

Thanks for that observation. When will you be getting your K5 to bear all this out?

Right, it should stay crippled for at least 6 months. This is idiocy.

Your memory is short. The last camera (the Kx) had a battery issue fixed very soon after release. The K7 had a green line issue fixed soon after release. Granted these were fixing bugs, not adding functionality, but I don't know anyone else who feels like firmware up dates are a bad thing.

It took over a month for the first K-x firmware to hit the download support page @ Pentax. And I do recall it quite distinctly, since I watched it on a daily basis.

FYI: Re: [Firmware update] 20 RAW buffer comming soon to K-5 :)

I just spoke to Ned at PhotoPlus Expo and he said the engineers had
"messed up the software", and when they realised the problem they went
back and fixed it; he said it was the first thing on their list of
stuff to fix and they (Pentax) were anxious to sort it out ASAP.

So, clearly you must view the current situation where a problem is fixed quickly as an improvement over the past, where it took a month to fix a known problem.

WHY are you trying to PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH?

Not once have I said fixing a bug in the K5's firmware was a BAD THING!

Not once.
